Smoking in casinos

Tomorrow I'll be joining my family at the somewhat local casino and I was wondering if any brown leafers smoke their pipe or cigar at the casino. I'm not much of a gambler, so at a certain point I like to get a craft beer and one of my cigars and find a lounge or outside bench to sit down and relax for a while. I've also smoked while gambling at the slots, not all the gamblers in the smoking section seem to appreciate cigars, it makes me wonder how they'd react if I brought my pipe.

I bet they would like it better than a cigar, especially if you used a 'baccy with a light room note. SWMBO doesn't mind Carter Hall or my VA based ones, but she doesn't like lat. blends...says it smells like a cigar. :001_smile

Most of my 'baccy is lat blends, I lean heavily to the latakia.

I decided to leave my new pocket pipe and my new 'baccy (Squadron Leader) at home and just bring 'gars. Easier to share 'gars too.

The Baraccini pocket pipe (smooth briar #2) cosmetically looks pretty good on cursory inspection yesterday and the Squadron Leader smells great, I'll be giving these a try soon.

I've smoked at a couple of casinos in Vegas (the West Coast Pipe Show is at a casino there) without getting any sideways looks. The casino air is usually so full of cigarette and cigar smoke no one really notices.

The casino I visit most is Parx in Bensalem PA ... they have both smoking and non-smoking areas on the gamin floor, and its often not clear where the borders are.

Most people smoke cigarettes in casinos. I see a few people with cigars that are playing at the slot machines, and increasing numbers of Vapers. Almost nobody smokes a pipe at a casino.

The casino isn't really a "Destination Smoke Lounge" ... people go there for other reasons and just because smoking is allowed doesn't mean that people will be wanting to talk about their tobacco habits. Just catch a quick hit and move on to the next machine.

I usually smoke cigarettes when I go there ... I've walked in and out of non-smoking areas and nobody says or does anything as long as I keep on walking. But if I sat down at a machine with a lit cigarette, I'm pretty sure an attendant would remind me and ask me to move.

If the casino has a tobacco shoppe, browse in there, perhaps buy a pack of pipe-cleaners or a bottle of butane just as a courtesy to keep up appearances, but bring plenty of your own supplies. Casino shoppes tend to be highly-overpriced.

Last trip to Vegas I brought plenty of cigars, and didn't even get a second look. The air handlers at the casinos are so massive that even non-tobacco using friends weren't bothered in the least.

They do sell overpriced cigars (Ashton's) and lighters and reasonable cutters here, and I did buy one of their cigars my first time smoking here. I like to relax in their empty lounge in the afternoon, but sometimes get kicked out to the machines or benches outside if they're doing sound checks for the evening shows. An IPA and a cigar to celebrate or more often commiserate about the gambling results before boarding the bus home. May try a pipe next time, not sure. The casino smells of cigarette smoke even in the small non smoking section.

My local airport used to have a plexiglass smoking section and I tried smoking it up with a cigar once but the ventilation was so good the smoke was quickly dispatched.

It is nice to be able to smoke inside so I take advantage of the opportunity, interestingly it usually draws attention of folks with sob stories looking for an audience, and maybe a handout. I lend the ear. I'm sure Vegas has a more tolerant attitude and varied clientele then this small casino.

Our casinos are nonsmoking.

I could say something about the federal grants (monies) that are available to local governments for the anti-smoking and anti-obesity programs and/or ordinances that they implement, no matter if the people or the businesses want it or not...but I won't.

The local casinos around here are on sovereign Indian land.

I can say that I don't remember ever seeing a cigar or a pipe in a casino either in Vegas or an Indian casino...but I probably didn't pay that much attention. I'm usually concentrating on trying to beat the dealer in blackjack when in Vegas...although I haven't gambled in a casino in years except for $2 that I spent at the casino where the wife works several years ago on the slots.

I may go up to the local casino and observe the rules on their blackjack tables and then take a couple of hundred..I used to take a thousand to Vegas to play with (if ya wanna play ya gotta pay) and see what I can do. I usually come out ahead a bit on blackjack.

Take my pipe, have a couple of watered down mixed drinks, a couple of beers, and see what happens. SWMBO as the designated driver or get a comp. room at the hotel though.

Slash...it's been several years since I've been to NOLA but I went by the casino boats on the river and didn't want to wait in line to go in. This just makes me not want to go period.

I'm with you...I don't play much (the Mrs. does most of the betting), but I enjoy sitting either in the lounge or bar, read the papers, have a few drinks and enjoy a cigar.

For the persons who object to which is otherwise authorized by the property (a few on sovereign Indian land),...my polite reply is..."You could go to another casino". :ihih:
