Smelly Razor Case

I won an auction for a cased Gillette Milady Tech on the bay last week. This is the first cased razor that I've had. Does anyone have suggestions on getting the smell of "old" out of razor cases? It smells of years of old perfume, cigarette smoke, and who knows what else, and generally just smells gross.

You might try two things. The first would be baking soda. If you're afraid it might damage the fabric make up a small packet of it out of fabric or paper. If you put it in loose make sure that the case is in a dry area. You could also try a product known as moth crystals. It is different than moth balls. It is often used as a deodorant/anti-mildew agent. The crystals will completely evaporate over time. Good luck with the project.

I tried with a ABC case, Put it in tupperware with baking soda for a entire month...no results.

It'll be next to impossible to get rid of it completely, but one thing that will help significantly is a dose of fresh air and sunlight. It's kind of like airing out your pillows after a good spring cleaning. As long as you don't leave it out for days and days you won't have any issues with fading, and you don't want to do it on a humid day or one that's threatening rain (hopefully obvious :tongue_sm).

Haha! Obvious indeed! Thanks for the tip though, I wouldn't have thought of letting it sit out.

If you know someone with an ozone machine that'll remove just about any lingering smells such as cigarettes, smoke from fires, mildew smells etc. Just don't leave living creatures in the same room as they'll get very ill.

I'd like to get one of our cars ozoned anyway, if I can find one, I'll throw the case in.

All my old Kampfe's and double rings smell exactly the same, anything I get pre 1930's has the exact same smell and I just love it. Open my display cabinet and I suck it in. I have just learned to appreciate and crave it.

Old perfume and cigarette smoke are my two favorite scents. Send it to me!

Ha! If it weren't for the fact that it's a relatively rare razor, I'd be tempted. It'll be placed in a zip lock bag and relegated to the back of my cabinet so as to keep it out of smelling range.

Wrap it in a dryer sheet or two before putting it in the ziplock.

Anything with activated charcoal will work best for your application. Items such as closet deodorizers and even dr. scholls odor x shoe inserts will work very well. Just put the your case in a brown paper bag with one of these products and let it sit until the odor is gone. Airing out is also another method...it may take a while, but its free. Regarding Ozone, while it is great for remediating odors, it may seriously damage the materials of the case due to its corrosive properties...especially one that has some age to it. In addition, color fading is a strong possibility.
Good Luck!
