Small Tragedy, Big Generosity and a Solemn Oath

About this time last year the nice, cushy government job that had been paying my mortgage decided it no longer required my services. The weak economy takes another victim, and before you say, "Hey, Canadian government employees who got laid off received a sweet severance package!" let me tell you that of all those who lost their jobs, about 5 in 7 were contractors and not employees. We got nothing, not even two weeks notice. Showed up Thursday morning, got called into our respective managers offices, packed our desks and went home to sit on the couch and wonder what the hell just happened. Such is life in government research departments though, we all knew the risks of this profession and I'm not bitter about it (much). Problem for me is that my experience, education and qualifications are specifically tailored to this position and now that it is closed indefinitely, I'm kinda hooped! Been back in college for a year now :cursing: (Hate it even more this time around!).

Seems odd that I tell this to a shaving forum, yes? This time last year I also received two PIF's from this community (A Gillette SS DE complete with ~40 assorted blades (and some other things) and a BIG soap sampler) and was about to purchase a straight razor with all the accoutrements (stones, strops, oils, etc) with a total cost of about $550. Well, after The Right Honorable Stephen Harper decided I was no longer needed, that order got cancelled in a right hurry! It was okay, I still had my new-to-me DE razor to learn so I was fine with it. Fast-forward to the present and my un-birthday rolls around a few weeks ago (Silly tradition, my friends got my birth-month wrong and threw me a party in March instead of May. We've celebrated it since.) and my closest friend and fellow wet shaver gave me a shiny new Dovo straight and a small strop. Guess that makes this three PIF's, eh? Learning curve aside I've enjoyed destroying my face with it thus far, off to the straight shave clinic!

In conclusion, I am writing this post to make a promise. I have another 5-7 years of schooling to go to (hopefully) become a pharmacist, but when I'm done I will repay the dept I owe this community. I'll upgrade my DE and re-PIF my current one AND a bunch of blade packs and in addition post up a bunch more goodies to members who have fallen on hard times and/or are just starting down the path of wet shaving. There, it is in writing, in a public domain, therefore it must come true eventually:thumbup1:, right? This promise I make to you, B&B, and it is a promise I solemnly swear to one day uphold. Thank you.
