Small Alum Chunks.....Forming ?

Dumb question here........I know alum is dirt cheap but has anyone tried to crush up small pieces of alum to form a larger block. Can this be done ?

I'm no geologist, but Alum (or potassium aluminum) can liquefy at high heat. But the water in the Alum compound would likely evaporate, leaving your with salty powder. So my guess is no.

Anyone else wanna take a stab at it?

Tried Alum for the first time today and will continue to use it. Left my face feeling silky smooth and also gave me feed back on where I was to rough with my razor. Any brands better than the others or does it even make a difference?

Potassium alum is potassium alum. Brand makes no difference.

Dont be folled by paying big money for a brand name. TOB is £6 for a tiny wee piece but a local groccers had double the size for £1. Guess which one I use all the time?

Yes, you can combine the small pieces. I buy alum chunks from a local store and recrystallize it into a block. I use a double boiler and a little extra water-make more of a crystalline shape.

Another option would be to try mixing it into a soap, as there are a few out there with alum in them.
