Slurry stone - significant effect on honing?

Does the slurry stone vein contribute significantly to the honing experience on a given coticule?

Is it worth trying different slurry stones on a given coticule or is its contribution to the honing experience subtle enough that its not really worth trying different slurry stones?

The consensus is that the coticule is abraded by the slurry, releasing additional garnets from the hone. So the slurry stone may have an effect initially, but it diminishes as you continue to hone. However, that should not stop you from experimenting with different slurry stones....

If the slurry stone is softer than the main hone you will be honing on slurry mostly from the slurry stone. So theoretically the intermediate stages could be affected depending on the slurry stone. When you finish on water without slurry obviously it is all about your main hone.

If the main hone is softer, than vice versa.

I think your question has been answered well already but it's always fun to continue testing. I'm just learning coticules myself and have not tried finishing with very fine slurry, only on water, so not sure how much the slurry stone would affect it if you were to finish any other way than with water only.
