Slim base metal?

So I have an old slim adjustable with some rust on it. After some soaking a copper color appeared. I'm trying to figure out if this is from whatever it was rusting against or the slim's base metal. I thought they were brass, and this is not in line with that. Anyone know the answer to this?

About the only time you see rust, is if an old blade was left in it and it went off. That usually cleans off OK, It can be a pain back in the corners, etc but it cleans up.
Where are you "seeing brass"? Got a photo?

Here are photos for help. The razor is in good shape otherwise. Still some black on numbers, nice and shiny. Most of the rust was on the head cleaned up, the rest should come off with more scrubbing. This, however, is a mystery...

Hard to tell in photo but we are talking about a nickel plated slim and not gold plated right. Pick a spot and just try using your finger nail or something similar. If this razor is nickel plated a toothbrush size brass bristled brush and some Brasso might work wonders. (Nickel is harder than the brass brush) If you go that route, protect your painted numbers with your finger as you scrub around the dial. If your plating has not been compromised I would think you stand a good chance of cleaning that one up.

May the force be with you......

Thanks for the tip! now I just have to find a brass brush... It IS nickel, its just between the shine and lighting it looks bright like gold

Usually a brass brush can be found in a good hardware store near where they sell metal files. The brushes are used for cleaning files etc.

Looks like it was under or touching something that rusted. Worst case scenario you can try super fine steel wool, which might take off the nickel too so be careful.

That looks like corrosion,so it's probably the brass that is corroding in that spot.I would get it off with a brass brush and dish soap in hot water.
