Slickness goes bye-bye

When face lathering my first pass is great but on the second pass the slickness seems not as good, What gives? Am I not using enough product or water or lathering long enough? Want the second pass to be as nice as the first.

Sounds like you might need a bit more water for that second pass. I usually bowl-lather, but I find that I need to add a drop or two of water to whatever's left in the bowl, and do a little more whipping before the second pass.

Have you tried rinsing your face after the first pass, and leaving it wet? The water on your face can be a good source of some added water to the lather.

Could you share which soap(s) you're using? Some soaps make lather that dries fast & needs more water to be used for subsequent passes. If this is the case - adding water to brush (but not too much) as you lather for 2nd pass will help.

This^^^^^^^, make sure to rinse your face with warm water prior to any passes, this issue plagued me for a few days.

+1, this is the way I do it and it seems to work pretty well.
I face lather and just using the loaded brush again on the wet face for the next pass is all that's needed.

Mostly my soaps are tallow, MWF, Stirling, Cella, Tabac, and arriving yesterday some Mikes and B&M. The soap doesn't dry out so much, just doesn't feel as slick as the first pass.

Great advice from these folks. I find that my second pass is usually more slick than the first, which is very helpful if you like to go against the grain on the neck.

Sounds like you should wet the brush between passes.

I wet the brush a ton while face lathering. I'll load the brush, then wet it and work on the face, and I'll probably re-wet the brush 2-3 times on that first lathering. I go until the lather looks wet. During this process, my brush gets filled with lather. On the second and third passes, I'll start by painting lather on, then wet the brush and work it in again.

In that case - I would +1 what most have already said. Add a bit of water to your brush or face in subsequent passes. I add slowly though - because one can always add more but can't take away if you add too much.
