Slashed Characters

Without counsel purposes are disappointed: but in the multitude of counselors they are established.*

So, I submit to the multitude of counselors which are the fine gentlemen of the Nib:

I was involved with a discussion on a different forum, where the gentlemen are few and far between, the topic of slashed zeros and zeds, and a problem came to mind. I decided not to discuss it there for the mouth of fools poureth out foolishness.*

I enjoy taking my time perfecting my block printing with my Sheaffer, but there are many occasions when I must write hastily with a pencil. Most of my characters are discernible, especially the 0's, O's, 2's, and Z's, due to my slashing thereof. I recently have been having trouble discriminating my 5's and S's. Does anyone here have any recommendations such as slashing or otherwise (quickly) altering the characters? I don't recall ever seeing a slashed 5 nor S.

I do the five starting at the top of the down stroke then put a rather long horizontal on the top at the end. It keeps the top, line straight and flat.

If I'm printing letters, I do my capital S's with a vertical line at the top of the letter. Kind of like the image below, but obviously less fancy:

Same here.
My "5" is clearly a "5", but I can see the confusion in whether an "S" is an "S" or a "5" if there is no "5" to compare to.

I typically slash my "0", but interestingly, not when writing a check or other financial situations. I guess the context clearly reflects a "0" rather than an "o"
