Slant vs. Adjustable

I've been thinking of getting a new razor, and have my eye on the Merkur 39C long-handled slant. However, I do have sensitive skin on my neck. If I try and go ATG, I get weepers, nicks and bumps. So I'm wondering if the slant is not for me. Perhaps an adjustable is a better option?

I'd love to get as close as possible on my neck without doing ATG, which my neck can't handle still.

If you hold an adjustable razor at an angle while you shave, you have the effec of a slant. But easier on the skin than a Gillette adjustable on 1 is a Goodfella.

I have the 39C and my throat/neck are fairly sensitive, too. I have not noticed that the slant does more damage than any other razor. YMMV.

I've found that the slant is not a good razor for me, but an open comb works great. You might want to look into the O.C.

I like the O.C. for my first WTG pass. I then do a ATG pass, but I use my safety bar razor. I use either the 1904 or the HD, and I have the safety bar and the open comb in each. :thumbup1:

Quite frankly, you will have to try the razors out for yourself. Anecdotal evidence from other members won't give you any indication as to whether or not a particular razor will work for you.

Do you find it shaves closer on the neck though?

No, not really. I like the 39C because it is heavy enough that it reminds me not to apply pressure. I get a better shave, especially on my neck, when I don't apply pressure.

While I hear that the horror stories about the slant are mostly untrue, I'm also reading that this razor is NOT for those with sensitive skin...

I'm really on the fence about it. I wish I could sample one like I have with shaving creams!
