Size of Chubby 1 in 2-band

I just got one of these from Jim at Vintage Blades and I've been looking at it wondering if something is completely off. The CH1 2-band is listed at a 25mm knot and 47mm loft, which I thought would look and feel like a lot of badger, but the knot seems downright tiny. It's certainly no wider looking than my Duke 2 (22/49) and my Rooney 1/2 (24/49) seems like it absolutely dwarfs this thing. Am I completely missing something here? I know the CH1 in standard Super is listed at 23mm knot, but everywhere I've seen confirms that the 2-band should be 25mm. Is this just something that becomes apparent when the knot blooms, or what?

I thought the knot in a CH1 was 23mm with a 47mm loft, but I don't check Jim's site since he doesn't ship to Canada.

Edit: I just checked West Coast and Shoebox and they both list it as 23 and 47.

Jim has it as 25mm with a 47mm loft.
The Superior Shave lists 25mm with a 48mm loft.
WCS says 23mm with 27mm loft.
Bullgoose Shaving has the same.

SO. CONFUSED.

Whatever the actual knot is won't make a big difference considering the very short loft (relative to the knot size) and the dense 2 band hair. My 2 band Colonel (23mm knot) feels fairly small in my experience.
I once had a 30mm brush with a 50mm loft and it felt barely any bigger than my 22mm Thater, because the Thater (like your Rooney 1/2) has a relatively tall-ish loft for its knot.

I talked to Jim and he did confirm that it's 25mm, which he has measured himself and found accurate. I'm kind of in shock, honestly. Definitely a move to the CH2 in my future.

I bought a Chubby 1 from Jim and have measured it. It comes to 23mm at the base of the knot and 47mm for the height of the loft. This brush does seem small and perfect for soaps. Don't count on this brush blooming though. That 2-band hair is resilient. I also think the bulb shape nature of the 2-band Chubby 1 brush contributes to it's feel in size. Personally, I would have preferred that this brush be a fan shaped brush for face lathering.

There was a longish thread a while back, I'll see if I can dig it out. Mine when measured came in at 24mm...

In reality, 2mm isn't that much of a difference when measuring things. Using calipers or eyeballing it next to a ruler could be an easy enough way to give or take an actual measurement by 1-2mm either way.

Brushes are tough... I've found they vary quite a bit between sizes and even the photos from the various vendors.

Agreed. I used calipers to measure mine...was fun and I ended up going through all my brushes to 'verify'. I believe the loft on the CH1 causes the illusion of a smaller knot ...

Whatever the knot size, give it a try. It is a smaller brush than most think, but it very nice to use, especially if you face-lather.

I kind of wish the knot on the Chubby 1 Two Band brush was fan-shaped. I am having a hard time face lathering with the bulb-shaped brush. It does it splay at all. I just end up using painting motions when I use it.

Soak it well before lathering and you'll have no problems with it...that chubby knot is one of the best I've ever used...

Yeah, unfortunately the Simpsons Two-band brushes can be almost pointy sometimes. However, I have had several Simpsons in Super and Best and they were both much more fan shaped. I much prefer this shape for face lathering - it's one of the reasons that the Duke 2 is one of my favorites!
