Sir Irish Moos - First Experience

And a wonderful one it was. Tabac's younger brother. The fragrance actually bears a similarity to the older sibling, but less flowery, less like Grandma's dresser drawer, more woodsy. But this is not about Irish Spring soap. Please! This is a much more complex, subtle fragrance and not nearly as long lasting as Tabac (which may be a good thing). There may even be some sandalwood notes in there. It is tallow based, and the lather is identical to Tabac. Very thick, very cushiony, very slick and slippery. Ideal. I am delighted with this soap which I found at Pasteur's (34th St.) for $11!! Better get over there, pick some up, and tell them to order some more. Ask them nicely not to JACK the price up either. If I knew then, what I know now, I would have picked up two more sticks.

That settles it. Time to order some Irish Moos from BullGoose unless someone knows of another on-line retailer they would suggest.

The scent is intoxicating, and the performance is good too. I am just so thankful this is not nearly as hard as it once was to locate any more.

One thing I've learned on B&B -

When Darjeeling Express posts an opinion, it's worthwhile to consider it. In this case, I can second his usual excellent observation due to first hand experience.

It's a fine soap, and if you like the way Tabac performs but don't like the scent, then SIM is the ticket.

Bullgoose is a first rate vendor, too.

Was at Pasteur's a couple of weeks ago didn't see it! Setting up a trip to get it and a Speick Stick as we speak.

Wait... so it doesn't smell like Irish spring?

Well, since scents are such a YMMV thing, and I have a decidedly uneducated schnozz, I won't dare to differ with DE when he says it isn't about Irish Spring soap...

But, to me, they are living in the same neighborhood, even if they aren't identical twins...:001_smile

Is the scent anything to write home about? I actually quite like Tabac's... bouquet, so I'm not eager to switch, but if the IM scent is incredible...

I have a stick of Irisch Moos that I got from a B&B member not too long ago. I really like the way it smells. It performs as well as cheaper options like Palmolive and Arko (in other words, it's an excellent soap) but I think it's worth paying extra to have something that smells nice. I think I'll always make sure I have one in my bathroom.

I have the IM cream. It has no tallow, but still performs great. I assume it smells the same as the stick. The smell is great. I wasn't sure at first, but grew to love it. Has a great peatey or woodsy smell.

Wait... so it doesn't smell like Irish spring?

Maybe slight similarities in some of the undertones, but the main smell is nothing like irish spring, IMO.

It's a green scent like Irish Spring, but they arent the same. The Moos is a more complex scent.

I guess I dont use it as much as I should. I had the ASB, but didnt really like it. Maybe I'll have to get the splash. The soap is nice, but doesnt see much use.

I wish they packaged it in a ceramic bowl like tabac.

Love both Moos and Tabac. In fact, I've been using them all this week!

I had my first shave w/the Moose today also. Great shave and soap. I may have to purchase a couple more sticks, just in case...

Agreed, Irisch Moos is a great soap and never fails to deliver a great shave. The scent is somewhat reminiscent of Irish Spring, but it's earthier and more complex. My wife loves it too.
