Single RING

I got this some time back with some other razors. There is no serial number any place on it. Any ideas on the year ?

You've got yourself a very nice Old Type Standard from about 1919. But this is what a Single Ring looks like courtesy of Achim.

Could you post a picture of the 1917 and your mystery one side by side with the end of the heads facing the camera? I would like to verify the cap and guard type. Although, there were a few thinner older #102 caps used on post August 1921 single ring types that had no serial number. I'm guessing that that is what it is.

The 1917 is the silver one to the left. I just use this as a shaver. I never could figure out the year. thanks

Okay. Your mystery one is a post August 1921 Standard Old Type with the newer #102-A cap and guard design. Notice that they are thicker than the earlier model. They didn't make a lot of these and I don't think they made them for as long. When the New Improved models appeared in 1921 as the "top of the line" razor the Old Types were mainly produced in extremely inexpensive pocket editions. As I mentioned, the Standard variety with the long post design was quickly fazed out as not to compete with the new New Improved.

Since the gold finish is already gone I would go ahead polish that sucker up! Brass makes for a beautiful finish.
