Singe Hair Cut

This question might fit fit in “Barber Shop” however it is “hair care”. Has anyone had a haircut with a comb and a flame singe (wax taper flame)? Hair was cut with a razor and then “sealed” with a flame. Not set on fire as some utube videos. How long ago, what country etc.

Yep, back in the 50's that was a typical finish to a haircut to get rid of any split ends. They'd then wipe down your hair with a wet towel and put some kind of liquid "hair dressing" on it to get rid of the burnt smell. I watched my barber do that to the adults, and complained to Dad that I wanted a grown-up haircut, so I got the split ends singed, too from there on out.

I don't know whether it's a good practice or not, but it was a right of passage for "young men" back then. Actually got an occasional straight razor shave (I was 6-8 years old), although I doubt he shaved two hairs off my neck. Barber was a pillar of the community and loved by all although some chided him constantly because he drove an Edsel.
