Sinatra Shaving

I was watching the 1955 film Love Is A Tender Trap and there is a scene where Sinatra shaves. He takes out a squaty can of what looks like Barbasol that has a screw on cap, steel I would assume. It had a whipped cream can type dispenser or acuator which I found odd. What I found more odd was the cartridge type razor he used in 1955, long and skinny with a thin cartridge. No brush either, patted the goo on. To me it dated the transition or availabilty of such items. Were these items mainstream, or were they being shown off as new or trendy as Hollywood tends to do at times.

Injector did not come to mind but is most likely what he used. It is funny that I paid such close attention to it. I guess that's what makes us board members.

Interesting. I was born in the 1940s, and didn't become aware of aerosol lather until sometime in the 60s. Perhaps because all of the men in my family used a brush or one or two a jar of "brushless" (Noxema or Molee, finger-applied) they slipped under my radar... As a kid, I remember displays of brushes at the drugstore; many carried Merkur (I grew up in NYC) they all carried a large assortment of soaps, cremes and shaving mugs.

The razor was probably a Shick injector; they were advertised as "safer" since you didn't have to touch the razor blade, but they weren't very popular.

I started to shave with a Rolls razor, and soon thereafter bought a Merkur Progress.
