simpsons chubby 2 - misconceptions?

I currently have 2 simpson chubby 2 - best and super. I have compared them to Rooney chubby large and vulfix 2236S and 2235S.

I have to admit that I don't think the brush uses too much product if the user does 2 or 3 pass shave. There is excess in there - but after my third or second pass - if I were to squeeze the brush completely dry - there is enough for less than half of my face - which is not a big deal.

I used it with creams - proraso - and I feel it took similar amount to make the lather for 2-3 passes compared to other brushes.

I do believe that the quality of lather is different - in the sense that due to lack of air/flow compared to other brushes (wait - that is a good thing) - the lather has very little or no bubbles at all - as a result the lather is much denser - which is what we strive for.

Now if one preferred less dense lather and as a result was using less product with a different brush - and suddenly happen to come up our chubby - I think that that person would immediately feel that more product was needed to later as chubby by its design - can not deliver lather with less density.

Please correct me if I am wrong - but I think that chubby 2 is not a large brush and uses little more or the same amount of product.

I like dense lather and I think my Chubby 2 manchurian is a product hog. I added a Chubby 3 two band and since then the 2 seems reasonable. Problem solved for a two pass shaver.

If you need to economize a Chubby 2 or 3 is not the brush to choose. The smaller knots such as on The Hive, Rover, M7, Tulip 3, Jubilee, all give copious amounts of great lather at a lower rate of consumption.

You see - that is exactly what I though - but my personal experience is quite the opposite - I do not think it is a lather hog to the extent it is made out to be. Sure it will hold slightly more than a normal brush but enough for 2 passes.

And it uses just slightly more than normal brush - as I use proraso green tube with all the brushes. Actually - I think the super used a little less product than the best chubby.

The personal experiences make the forum interesting. I figure half again more Proraso cream, or better, or I just don't get satisfaction from my Chubbies. Maybe I get too carried away with the luxury they provide. The addition of them to my shave den has also caused me to swing from a heavy emphasis on creams back to soaps. Hard to quantify how much of a hard soap a Chubby consumes but my inventory is so good I no longer worry. Enjoy those brushes...
