Simpsons 3-band Super Badger vs 2-band Super Badger

I decided to add a Simpson Tulip 2 in 3-band Super to my Simpson Tulip 2 in 2-band that I have. I resisted for awhile, but alas, I had to find out for myself what the 3-band was like.:laugh:

I've only had it for a few days now and only one use, but I just noticed today after comparing them dry on the face that they are remarkably similar in feel to me. The 3-band isn't as dense or have as much backbone to the 2-band of course but the tips feel almost dead even otherwise. Just the 3-band has less of a scratchy feel to it, but maintains a good amount of the scrub I get from the 2-band.

Something odder than how similar they feel to me is I love the sound of using the 3-band more. I can't explain it but it really adds to the pleasure of the shave.

I guess with all the various brushes I've tried through many different types I'm just surprised how close the 2-band and 3-band for this manufacturer seem to be for me. Anyone else have this as well?

I find the Tulip in Super (3 band) denser than the 2 band and find that I prefer the regular Simpsons Supers to their 2 bands brethren.
IMO they sport denser and more regular knots.

i have a simpson chubby 3-band and an astor 2-band, also had a tulip 2-band. First off the chubby is MUCH denser than the astor, but i dont think that has to do with the hair i just think chubbies are meant to be a dense brush. For me, and this is my only opinion is that they are very similar, the tips are very very soft on either brush, it seems that the 2-band is a lil more springy though, and i can imagine that a chubby 2-band would have ridiculous backbone. I love them both and highly recommend both.

Comparing modern issued units, the 3-band's actually more dense in the hair-strands-per-area-unit sense, but feels less dense because of the 2-band's springy, thicker base.

Didn't know 2 & 3-band sounded different; definitely gonna have to check that out. I've certainly been affected by the acoustical properties of razors.

+1 3-band supers are definitely more consistent and denser than their 2-band counterparts.

The only 2-band Simpsons that has really impressed me (I've tried 3 so far) is the Chubby 2.

I have to say that I find the 2 band Simpsons denser and have more backbone personally. I do have to say that they are both equally soft but the 2 band for me is a bit stiffer.

BTW...I have a lovely 3 band Simpons Emperor 1 for sale (shameless plug)

Hmm.... Tempting.... Thank goodness it's an Emperor 1 and not a 2 or 3. A 1 is a bit small for me. I'm holding out for when bestgroomingtools.com gets their new Vie-long stock in!

I think the only other Simpson that would be tempting at the moment would be an Emperor 2 or maybe 3 in Super. I'm not really crazy for 2-band for the most part. Unless we are talking Rooney Finest. That is in a class all by itself for me! :thumbup1: Nothing against the Simpson 2-band. :wink2:

Hello my friend.
I lost my Chubby 1 in tow band and looking to a new Brush.
My options: Chubby 1 Super in three band or Chubby 2 in Super or Chubby 2 in Manchurian.
Please give me your opinion and why?
I`m a bowl/scuttle lathering.

Regards
Sam

I prefer the 2 bands, however I have only tried one 3 band Super/Silvertip. I have to go against the consensus and say that the 3 bands are often denser. The hairs are thinner and are usually more packed into the knot as a result. Without exception, my 2 bands have soft tips. The 3 band PJ3 was beautiful to look at but rather prickly on the face. The polite way of saying this is that it has "greater presence of knot." If this is what I was looking for, I would buy a Best. I love my Simpsons Bests.

Ssscience, I don't think a Chubby 1 would work well for bowl lathering. The handle is too short. Get a Duke 3 instead if you want this size of brush. The Chubby 1 is a fantastic face latherer, though. I am always one to recommend a well-selected Best over a Super, but that is just my experience.
