So, I'm looking to buy my first premium brush. I've pretty much settled on a Duke 3, but I keep hearing about these wonderful 2-band versions -- are they still available for sale new anywhere?

You might want to contact Mark at Simpson. I don't think they're available anymore, except through Simpson directly.
Definitely contact Mark or Brett at the Simpson factory. They make custom brushes and, for those interested, they can also make personalized engravings on the handles.
I had no idea about this!! I've been ogling the limited edition page last couple of weeks gutted that i've missed out on so many great brushes.
Will have to start saving now, and thinking about what i'd like.... hmmm.

I have the Duke 3 in 2-band, and as you might expect, it is a great brush. However, I am not certain that the Duke 3 in best would be any less of great brush. The Simpson brushes I have in best hair are teriffic and as pleasurable as the 2-banders. The point being that you do not have to pay ~$300 for a great brush. My only caution is do not spend a lot of money on the Duke 3 in 3-band Super. Simpsons 3-band Super is too soft and floppy for me ( I have the Tulip 2 in Super 3-band) and does not possess the combination of softness and firmness that the 2-band or best hair have.

I've read that a lot of people prefer the Best over the Super. Thanks for the first-hand account!
Just got my own Duke 3 in best off the BST - LOVE THIS BRUSH. I'm a bowl latherer who is beginning to dabble in face lathering - all about creams mainly - but occasionally superlather with some DRH soaps.

I agree! I got a Duke 3 in best for Christmas and it is outstanding! I haven't used a 2-band of the Simpson's so I can't speak to that. The Duke in best is a great brush though and you might be very happy with it. Anyone used both grades of Simpson's hair in a similar brush? I would love to here how they compare in a brush about this size.
