Simpson for face lathering soaps

What would be the best Simpson brush for face lathering? I use soaps not creams and would like a brush with some backbone. I have done some research and am thinking the Duke 2? Any help would be appreciated.

Duke 2 is the ticket. It is the one that gets the nod most of the time when I am at home and face lathering either sticks or hard soaps (even face lathering creams)

If you like more stitch, look at the Beaufort B4 in pure. Fantastic brush that is a little stiffer than the Duke. I am traveling and have taken a Duke 1 and my Beaufort B4 The Beaufort has been getting the nod 3 to 1 over the Duke if that helps.

Duke 2 or 3 or the Chubby are gonna get most of the votes around here. I had a Classic 2 which is actually right between the two in size. I like the size and shape if it, but didn't care for the best grade knot. If I buy another Simpson brush, it would be in 2-band.

Thanks for the recommendation. Can i ask what is "stitch" and "scritch"? on a side note...

Oh God THE VEG has infiltrated my thread...

Two band looks good but out of my budget.

The Beaufort in pure is almost scratchy. It is very firm with little give to the bristles. It might even be called "irritating" for some but for me it is a nice stiff brush that holds a fair amount of lather and releases it effortlessly. If you don't want stiff, the Duke 2 is nicer. If you haven't owned a Duke 2 go with this one first before branching out into non pedestrian brushes.

If you find you don't like the Duke 2 they are an easy and fast sell on BST but give it at least a full month of daily use before making a decision on any brush (same goes with razors and blades)

I absolutely LOVE my Duke 3 in 2-band super. It can face lather anything you throw at it.

My face is very sensitive to "scritchy" or harsh brushes, and my Duke is just perfect. Totally soft but with the backbone to support it. No scritch!

I currently have an omega boar that has served me well for about 4 years. Unfortunately it's losing bristles now. I'm just wanting to get a badger as an upgrade. Below is a pic of my Omega from another thread.

So from what I understand a 2 band brush has the stiffness of a boar but the unscritchiness of a Silvertip? Sounds interesting.

"but he's not looking for best bang for the buck, he's looking for the best brush for face lathering. the Colonel is not that brush."

I will humbly suggest that there are many who may disagree with your assessment of the Colonel as not necessarily being the best. I personally think as a face lather brush it is quite competent but not spectacular..and it is only about $65.00. I also have a 2 band Simpson Emperor which doesn't come close to the Colonel as a face lather tool..cost twice as much also. So much for the "get what you pay for" idea. As far as the BEST face latherers, I have a couple Omegas which receive THAT recognition.

Too bad another boar isn't in the picture. For $9 and/or $25 you can acquire some of the best face lather brushes ever made...but they are boars..alas.

I absolutely love my Duke 2 in Best. If I'm face shaving only, its the brush I use to face lather soaps. Can't go wrong with it or the Duke 3, or Chubby...or any Simpson really.

2 to choose from, the Rover is nice and dense, but has good loft for excellent flow through. The second is the 57 (but any Fifty Series will do).

I face lather pretty much exclusively, but I'm also in the minority that prefers smaller brushes. My Duke 1 satisfies all needs, not just when traveling. Though I also deviate to the Wee Scot fairly regularly!
