Simpson Duke 3

So for a very long time I've wanted a Simpson brush (specifically a Duke). I recently came back stateside and bought myself one as a "welcome home" gift. I prepared myself for the inevitable new brush badger fur smell and was admittedly disappointed with it's performance. I really wanted to switch back to my Parker silvertip but I remember reading something a few months back about how Simpson brushes take some time to break in. I decided to stick with it and it was a fantastic decision. I got a fantastic lather today and I've been noticing that they've been getting better and better every day. The bristles are softening up nicely and are now on par with my silvertip. If anyone is thinking about getting one of these beauties I highly recommend it. Let me know if you have any questions.

My friend this post is perfectly timed. I have a Duke 3 on the way to my house as we speak and it'll be my first brush over $30. I've tried various TGN finest knots n lofts, omega/semogue boars.

I cannot wait and I'm glad you gave me the heads up in case I'm not thrilled with it initially.

My Duke 3 was a perfect lather out of the box. It is in Best, like my Chubby 1. I really can't tell the difference between the Duke knot and my Emperor 3 Super knot. They look and feel the same.... I guess that is why the Best Hair Grade is so popular.
If it says Simpson, it should be a really great brush. I own three Boar Brushes. They require a break-in period.

I'll eventually get a chubby as well. Which do you prefer? In thinking the ch1 in super.

I strictly head and face lather.

I have the Duke in size 2 and 3 and they are both amazing performers. The only brushes I love more than the Dukes are the Chubbies. That said, I think the D3 is a legendary brush that any Simpson fan should have.

I definitely noticed a break-in period for my Duke 2. The "scritchiness" faded and now it is just awesome!

My Duke 3 is one of my favorites. I've had it so long, I can't remember the break-in period. All I know is that it is a top performer every shave now.

Duke 3 is a true work of genius made possible by the excellent properties of Simpsons best badger hair...as long as it does not shed.

I had a Duke 1 that I liked a lot but thought too small. I sold it and bought a Duke 2. I love this brush. It's still a bit small, but performs wonderfully on everything. I've got a large pill bottle from a pharmacy that I throw it into when I travel. So it has become my standard travel brush. If it weren't for that I'd think about selling the D2 and moving up to a D3.

I had a poor first experience with my D3 but I plan to break it in some before casting my final judgement. It felt very scritchy but Mark has been great and WCS as well. Fantastic customer service!

I feel the same way about my Duke 2. I was disappointed at first, but the more I use it, the better it is starting to perform. I've only had it for 2 weeks, so hopefully it will reach something optimal soon.
