simpson density scale

so my very first simpson brush was the G3 eagle and out of curiosity, i bought a duke 2 to see how the knots compared (very comparable)...but both brushes are almost too dense for my comfort. because of this, i'm still learning how best to lather and hydrate these uber-dense knots.

i've also heard that not all simpson brushes are quite this dense.

those who have several, how would you rate them on the density/easy lathering scale?

The Colonel is seemingly less dense than the Eagle from the group buy. 'Bout all I can tell you.

I have a Tulip 2 in super and it's not as dense. I'm still learning the ropes on the Eagle as well. I love the Tulip...super soft tips, decent backbone and a real nice density. I think it's my favorite cream brush.

I have a Simpson Ehsan super in two band from Bullgoose. It is a great brush with plenty of back bone and is a thirsty brush with a nice feel. It is dense but not in an off-putting fashion for my taste. It is my go to brush at the front of the rotation.

Happy shaving,

From the off the beaten path Simpsons, in decreasing order of density (all with Best hair):

Eagle G3 > 57 > Keyhole 2 > Milk Churn (MC2)

They are all great to use, each behaving a little differently. It is a moot point if you can't lay your hands on one, but the Group Buy Eagle is the best brush I own. It lathers anything easily, and has a very comfortable handle. The 57 is a close second, in both density and performance.

So, for those of us fairly new to this, what is a more-dense brush better at? I've been using my two Simpson brushes with soaps most recently, but they seem okay with creams.
