Simpson 27 Butterscotch Pure Badger

Below is a recent brush purchase that I am hoping someone could give me some info on.
I asked Mark Watterson, Managing Dir - Progress Shaving Brush (Vulfix) about it. He said that it pre-dated their acquisition of the Simpson brand in 2008 so he wasn't able to offer more then to confirm tha it is an authentic Simpson vintage brush. I am very new to shaving brush collecting and would really appreciate any info that I receive. As best I can see the side reads "27 Pure Badger" but I am curious about the style of brush, approx age, how long does it generally take for a brush to "turn" butterscotch, etc...

Thanks in advance for even the smallest detail or background info anyone could offer.

Very nice brush, including the hair. The color is due to UV exposure. It only happens with handles made of catalin, an early form of plastic, and is valued by many. The color only affects the surface layer, so use caution if you are considering much in the way of buffing or polishing.

Excellent butterscotch Simpson. i dont know something about it but i know it was jgriest03 brush and originally restored by progress-vulfix(simpson) than Hig789 bought it and recently he sold it from the ebay and you are new owner.
Maybe they know something about it. Congrats be sure that you have a perfect vintage simpson there.

melyus,
Thanks for your (and others) feedback. Please know that I'm not questioning that the brush is an authentic Simpson, or the honesty of Hig789. Hig789 was great to work with and very patient with several questions before I bid on the brush. I'm simply curious about it's history and age, etc...
Again thanks for everyone's feedback

This picture may help. This is a 26 with pure badger and the original sticker... you can see how similar looks to the emperor on the left.

Very nice, markh58. I thought seriously about getting into the mix for that one. :thumbup1: I think you got a pretty good deal on it, a lot less than I was anticipating. Enjoy it.

Thanks for the pics, the Butterscotch looks very similar to mine. BTW does the 27 refer to knot size ?

Its a very nice brush you have, I had it restored by Mark at Vulfix-Simpsons in its original Pure hair. I would guess its from the 60's or somewhere around there, but I am no expert. Maybe some Simpsons experts will chime in. I also would like to know what the "27" means, its a big brush so maybe it is the knot size like someone else mentioned. I miss that brush, big easy to hold handle and a nice loft but the Pure hair had a little too much scritch for me.

I believe that Simpson gave some of their brushes model numbers rather than names, at least initially. The Berkeley is still the 46, the Fifty Series brushes still only have their numbers, and the Eagle used to be the 88.

I have a '25' awaiting restoration. It is the same style as the OP's - but will accept a 20 mm knot. I assume the 26 and 27 are bigger brushes.
