It seems to me that various makers produce the same razor over and over. Is there any reason to choose, say, Parker over Jagger? Merkur over Muhle?
I think Jagger and Muhle have heads made by Merkur. I am also willing to stand corrected on that.
You shall stand corrected then.
The Edwin Jagger uses the Muhle head, which is of it's own design. It is not a Merkur head, and this is quite apparent in a side by side comparison of the razors. The Muhle heads are not made by Merkur.
While the newer style Parker heads are considered to be a vast improvement over their past models (which suffered from major quality control issues) they are no where near a match in quality to the Muhle/ Edwin Jagger heads. The finish of the Muhle heads is superior, and when compared side by side, the design of the Parker head looks antiquated; as if the Parker head was being produced on 1940's era equipment, rather than modern computer controlled equipment.
I'd just like to chime in on this. I remember reading that Edwin Jagger does indeed use the Merkur Classic head, but has Merkur do extra polishing work on the heads to bring them up to EJ standards. That was mentioned in Michael Ham's, aka Leisureguy, book on gourmet shaving, page 54, under Edwin Jagger razors.
The corrector shall stand corrected.
Jagger has changed heads since the book was published.
