Siimone Coulande Special grindstone. Very High Class) What is it?

Hey BB,

I was wondering if you could tell me anything about this hone. It's tiny and one side is hollow.. I'm thinking about selling it or keeping it since it came with other stuff. Anything will be appreciated.

My best guess is that its a cheap barber hone.

And here are the pics:

Gravy.....

I guess this doesn't belong in this section. Where does it belong? Should I just pif this to people who use safety razors to sharpen their dull blades?

I think it is a novelty, who in their right mind would sharpen DE blades?

Well if it can hone a DE blades I don't see why you couldn't use it for your straights. Very cool piece BTW.

Back in the day there were heaps of DE blade sharpeners available. The most common I see around here are made from green depression glass.

And it was The Depression, after all. A penny saved...

agreed it's a DE razor hone. I've actually found quite a few devices on ebay similar and many more designed to strop a DE blade- ie: the Kriss Kross, the Twinplex and the most interesting to me at leat, one called the MONROE -which uses magnets to align the microscopic teeth - or at last that's what the accompanying instructions says - it too was from the 1930-1935 era: thoguh I've only been able to fidn an ad in Popular Mechanics via google searches. fortunately it came with all paperwork and box to boot.

I haven't used it, except to test whether magnet works and it DOES! guess in those days people were really stretching every penny indeed (though curious how much they were asked to shell of for these devices?) the instructions claimed that if used daily it would make a DE blade last 6 months!

some pics of the Monroe:
