This one is something. The color is very dark in the house despite being under the light and pretty light outside. Looking at it, it almost seems it has less of the color material and more of the translucent one(silica or whatever that is), the way it sparkles in the sun is insane. Slurry comes up easily with 1200 atoma but if you tap it it has this really high pitch sound. Very dense stone.
Used with a kiita tomo and finished on slurry gave a very sharp and comfortable edge. The Cape650 was finished on it and it wiped whiskers like nothing.
The kawa is a bonus.

Damned if I know what this is aside from it’s a JNAT...it’s 8x2x1. Any ideas gents?

These are the sellers pictures...I will take better ones after it arrives, and I clean it up a bit.

Thanks for your help!

Ask me about shaving naked!
No telling, but the ‘blue bubble’ is a sign of Nakayama or a close nearby mine. So I would expect it to have the chance of being very good. Good luck Matt!

Thanks Steve...I figured for $115 I would take a shot. The lady could only really tell me that it was used as a razor finisher, so a true roll of the dice here.

It looked old as well from the saw marks and base, but like I said...I haven’t a clue...complete novice with these JNATS! I am looking forward to learning about them!

The saw marks you mentioned are a good example of hand sawn sides on the wood base, and machine radial sawn sides on the stone.

Thanks Alex! Does that mean anything to you as far as dating?

I pm’d with Steve, and I am mentally preparing for the stone to be a dog, but part of me is excited!

Gents,

I took one step down the rabbit hole the last few days with this Ozuku Koppa. There are a lot of great adjectives to describe the phenomenal shave, but my two final thoughts afterwards were:

1. Hmmmm...so that’s what all the fuss is about!

2. The the resultant edge was that fantastic from my initial efforts, I can’t wait to see what I can do once I really dial it in!

Gents,

Well the JNAT off of eBay arrived today and it cleaned up beautifully!

Pictures Wet...and Dry:

I know that oranges and yellows appear more so in pictures, but it is not the case here...these are very accurate, and the slurry is a neon Orange/Rust color:

I had to test it a bit, so I used the Shavesmith near wedge, because it has a wider bevel near the edge...I dropped it down to 8k, and did the laps in the slurry. The slurry put a wonderful and even glaze/haze on the bevel near the edge, and it did not change color through the process.

As I diluted the slurry down to just water I could see the haze turning into a mirror. Finally I rinsed the stone, and did 30-40 laps on just water. The resultant finish on the bevel is a mirror, and under the 30x loupe it looks better than what I was able to achieve on the jasper hone. This was very surprising to me!

Here is a picture where you can see the edge of my phone in the bevel:

The hanging hair test was also easier off of this stone than my beloved jasper...no auditory plink...hair just fell on the edge, and then fell to the other side. I also grabbed a fruit squeeze pouch that my wayward four year old left on the table to show how the mirror reflects color.

All indicators thus far...mirror finish...bevel under the 30x loupe...hanging hair test...all point to this stone being a winner! I cannot wait for the shave test!

Do any of you guys have any thoughts about the stone itself...colors...patterns...etc? If the razor does as well as I think it is going to do...I might have a world class finisher on my hands!

Thanks!

Gents,

The stone above put a sublime edge on the Shavesmith FOR BARBERS USE razor...I just shave tested it!

I struggled and struggled with this razor...it is a near wedge 8/8+, and the spine is over .25 inches thick...sadly I had come to the conclusion that it was just an unrefined behemoth.

I purchased it second hand, the steel is one of the harder steels I have honed, it arrived with edge geometry issues, and frankly my honing skills were not up to the task. That changed somewhat after I gained more experience, and tried it out on the jasper. I was finally able to get it to pass the HHT, and get a nice comfortable shave.

Well the unknown JNAT above took it to a much higher level of refinement, and the edge not only removed the hair from my face, but it just felt much much nicer. COLOR ME IMPRESSED! I am glad I kept this razor, and didn’t give up on it!

I hope that everyone has a nice weekend!
