Show off your favorite photo of your kids

I rarely can get the 2 of them to stand still long enough to take a picture, so to get them both in the same frame is like hitting the lottery.

Taken with my Nikon D800 and 200mm f/2

I'm saddened to have to say this but it's a reflection of the world we live in.

While B&B is a great communiy of like minded individuals, there are two things to bear in mind. One - This forum can be accessed by anyone on the internet, and Two - all you know about your B&B brethren are what they type in little white boxes here.

I encourage anyone who is going to post in this thread to take two things into consideration before posting;

1. Have you sold on the BST and therefore have an address out there where these great looking kids live?
2. Have you looked the picture and your accumulated posts over enough so as not to have inadvertantly included clues as to where these great kids live?

Again, my apologies for bringing this sour subject up, but I think that at least being aware of these issues is important before you hit the submit button.

It is a sad, sad world...that being said, if B&B is anymore dangerous than Facebook or the numerous other photo sites I'm a member of, I'll eat my hat.

I do make sure that all the EXIF info is deleted from my images though, so I do take that precaution. Thanks for the concern though.

Unfortunately, that is all too true Phil. My wife is actually a forensic nurse and does sexual assault cases at a children's hospital, so it hits home with is all the time. The sad thing is over 90% of the time it's not a stranger, but, someone that the kids/family know personally and think they can trust.

Sorry, not trying to kill the party at all, just thought it would be better if informed decisions were made.
Good idea about geo-location information, particularly if a camera phone is used.

Just an impromptu grab shot of my son at grandmas house. I had just got some new light equipment and was fiddling with it when he walked into the right area and unknowingly gave such a wonderful pose!

No need to apologize. Your observations and cautions are spot on. I have worked in Law Enforcement for 23 years and I can attest first hand, the lengths that certain undesirables can and will go to when selecting victims. In particular, predators of this nature spend a great deal of time and effort to gather information, no matter how seemingly insignificant to the outsider for their use to select, track and potentially "groom" their victims. These people go to lengths that some here would not believe. Furthermore, most if not all of these types of predators are stimulated "visually" or in layman's terms, through the viewing of pictures.

Anyone here who doubts that our esteemed Moderator's advice to be at the very least considered is quite naive. As a rule because of my occupation, I do not keep photos of my family on my desk or in my wallet. Granted, all of my children are grown however, the practice is still intact for the time that grand children come along. Nor, do I engage in any "Face-booking" or subscriptions to "Linked in", etc.

Folks, the ugly reality is that there are very bad people in our world and I have seen it first hand for many, many years.

Buyer/poster beware is all that I am saying. Is it worth the risk?

Stay safe,

Frank

This was supposed to be a fun thread...but now, not so much. I appreciate all the concern for my kids, but I do do my best to keep them safe and will always do so. I too have family in law enforcement (Dad and Uncle) and have heard a number of horror stories over the years, and because of those stories I have taken precautions to protect my family to the best of my ability. Truthfully, if this thread is going to continue in this vein, to the moderator, please delete the thread.

I enjoy families enjoying their families, but this is just bumming me out.

Well, I'll play.

Our daughter when she was still a newborn. Nikon F2, 50mm lens. Ilford HP5+. This is a scan of an 8X10 darkroom print on Ilford MG RC paper.

@Fast14riot - I always love these natural (not a poses) poses. They always convey more about a person than any set shot ever will.

@Edcculus - Beautiful, I really miss the look and feel of film. If you don't mind my asking, how long ago was this?

@Evil4blue

That shot in the OP is just amazing. I've been trying to get that sharpness/dof/dreamy quality in my pictures and just can't seem to get there, even with what post I know how to do. I'd love to get my hands on a full frame and a 200mm that could stop down to 2.8 wider. It's just magical.

I've already posted this photo here in another thread somewhere and I don't think it's got location data, so I have no problem posting it again. I've not had a chance to shoot my daughter with her new baby brother yet (I've left that up to the professionals so far) but here is one of mine. It's a T4i with 50mm prime at about f5 I believe. Should have stopped down further but I wasn't thinking at the time and was just thrilled she was looking and smiling at the camera at the same time.

I forget exactly how old she was when I took the picture. I think in the 3-5 month range. She is 16 months old now, so this was taken sometime last summer.

Most of what I shoot is on B&W film. Some 35mm, but increasingly more 6X7 medium format. I have a darkroom to do all of the printing. I have a T1i that comes out to shoot bulk family photos etc, but my real passion is for film.

I love my 200mm and am lucky to have it. The thing cost a small fortune and you have to try not to throw your back out when handholding it, but as you can see, the photos just have "That Look" when everything comes together.

Anyway, your daughter is a doll. So cute. You could have stopped down a little, but probably not much if you want to keep her entirety in focus. It's a beautiful shot either way. Thanks for sharing.
