Should I try Martin de candre soap?

To give you guys little background I have tried pretty much every soap There is out there. My problem is that I cannot get good leather from Mitchell's Wool fat, tabac, gft, floris etc. I have ended up pretty much throwing away or giving these soaps but would like to try some. Is there a way I can try some sample?

you could post a WTB?

check Gary's Sample Shop. he used to sell sample sized amounts.

FYI...posting a WTB outside the BST forums is forbidden.

any chance you can describe what you do to lather products. you say you've tried everything with no success. that tells me your technique needs some work. buying a sample of mdc won't help you.

As much as I'd like to recommend MDC to you as others have said perhaps you could give us a little Kore information on your method. We have a pretty good success rate here at B&B of helping people with lather. Legend has it Bruce and Xillion can even lather gravel. So details please so we can help.

I agree with the above poster. Definitely give MdC a try - it's the best soap there is IMHO.
But with soaps like Tabac, lathering should be very easy. MWF I can understand can be difficult, but with Tabac the brush just "looks" at the soap and lather starts to appear :tongue_sm

To me, the best quality of MdC is that it is pretty fool proof to lather (as are some other soaps including Tabac), so you may like it. But there are obviously issues with your lathering technique if you aren't getting lather from any other soaps...in short, it aint the soap. I don't think MdC is all that special outside of its ease of use.

Having said that, I have a hard time believing that you have been at this for four and a half years (and 600+ posts) with zero success lathering any soaps. I would add to Bruce's suggestion of buying a sample from Gary.

hi there....so here is the explanation - i do remember having spotty success only couple of times with the EJ soaps. The Nomad, GFT (rose, sandalwood, coconut), MWF, tabac, arko stick all were just purchased on a whim and then sold or given away.

What I always concentrated on was creams. Partially I am to blame as I always thought that the soaps would dry out the skin and the creams would be moisturizing.

In any case - what I had never tried was grating the left over tabac and EJ seathorn shaving soap together into a puck. Additionally used a lot - i mean - a lot more water than i usually use. Loaded the brush for about 45-60 seconds and than hand lather for about a minute or two - and there it was - wow !! :)
A lot of leather.

Now - on to the MDC soap - will order it from the lazy US vendor who started carrying it and then went on "vacation" ! :(

So now I cant' wait till he gets back and I can order me the MDC soap. Meanwhile I have ordered Mikes natural soap - all of the samples he has available. Lets see how that goes....

Thanks guys...

Why would you order it from the US vender and pay more? He is charging a middle man fee. Order it directly from MDC and it's to your door in 5 days! By the time he's back from vacation you could have already had it:)

I paid ~67.50 USD shipped to Canada. I think shipping to the US might even be cheaper than Canada, so you're not saving a whole lot with the domestic vendor. Plus you might get samples ordering it directly from MdC.

Agreed. Order it direct and it will be at your door in about 10 days. No waiting, free samples, tracked and insured and you will be supporting the Artisan not a middle man.

There is no need to wait, it's available and today the 2nd batch of Fougure goes on sale.

just an update - got the soap and WOW ! without any improvement the soap works wonders !!! Amazing.....and then I grated my old MWF and EJ seathorn soap together - and that too is performing very good too - not as good as MDC - but thank you guys....I think soon I am going to sell all my collection of creams and just go on with soaps...
