Should I get a Mac?

I have been using a PC for many years but I'm getting the urge to go with a Mac. I would use it for hobby stuff, movie editing, podcast creation and the like. I have two questions:

Is a Mac mini sufficient for this?

How good is i Movie or should I go with FC express?

I switched back to a mac about 4 years ago best move i could have made.
I use a macbook pro and the it is to me great for what your looking to do.

Hope it works out if you switch.

Only switch if you feel it is worth it to spend a few extra dollars for a computer that works better and will last longer than anything else out there.

I had three pcs over the years the last two were high end Dells, always a problem with bugs and viruses and Vista was poor quality. I got an Iphone last year and made the leap over to a Macbook and I am so glad. I still use a pc at work, but all my home and personal work is on a mac. Also, get an mac wireless router and with a macbook you working wireless and the Iphone rocks too!!!

Poo on the computers...

... get one of these.

Switched to MacBook (bought at Best Buy), and I'm very pleased with it. It does take some getting used to, but if you like messing with computers it will be fun to make the transition and see how a different operating system works.

For what you're looking for a mac mini will work very well. As for iMovie -- it's pretty good. I suggest you try it and see if it does what you need. If not then drop the coin for Final Cut. I suspect though that iMovie will have everything you need.

with the processing power of today's chipsets, any mac will be enough for hobby level processing needs...so i agree with the answer 'yes'...

I'm still using my G4 powerbook that I bought new in september 2005...

My first mac was a mini, and it was before they can with intel, and it still works very well. That said, I upgraded to a macbook with 2 gigs of ram and 250 gigs of hard drive space and have been really happy with the decision, but I do take my computer to work, which is why I wanted a laptop. I will never go back to a PC. Really, unless you play a lot of video games, get a mac. If you already have a monitor you like and don't need the potability of a laptop, the minis are a great computer.

I have a 1st gen mini that is now a music server in my home stereo. My oldest has a Gen 2 mini basic setup...they are both great machines.

I use a Macbook air as my personal/work laptop and love it. Both my work and personal desktops are iMacs and they are great. When I upgrade my work machine I will trickle these down so my younger daughter gets the Gen 2 mini.

I don't use an iPhone though.

Yes.

I recently got one and my only annoyance is that the bluetooth broke for the wireless keyboard and mouse. It's ok though because they were immediately replaced.

Take a word of advice: get another mouse. I made the mistake of "upgrading" to a wireless Mighty Mouse. The Mighty Mouse is crap. Get a Logitech.
