Should I buy a Personna 74?

I know all about theses legendary blades from posts I've read on here. I have the chance to buy one or even a couple, should I grab them? I am new but even if I save them until I have some more experience.

Why not? They are very smooth blades and are fantastic for those special days when it's desirable to have flawless shave. On the other hand, they are extremely sharp and require additional care. You can get nearly the same performance out of some other vintage blades. Gillette Platinum Plus is a good alternative. Platinum Plus might not last as long, but I'd rate it way up there in terms of performance.

Bought 3 of them to try. They are on the bay right now, should be 4 left after the 3 I bought. If anyone else is looking for these rare blades it would be good to grab them now.

You will probably enjoy them. Also, when I said extremely sharp, this is relative because the alloy and coatings on those blades are denser than most. Those sample blades were among some of the earliest examples of the Personna 74 (newspaper inserts).

One of my shaving goal is 1# Own an Eclypse Red Ring and 2# find a box of NOS Personna 74 (A B&B member found a box last year, there was around 400 Personna 74 if I remember well).

That would last anyone a lifetime. I remember that find AND looking at that auction. Didn't know what it was. Kudos to that member.

If you see them, get them. Their price is insane, and IMHO, not worth $4 a pop for more than one or two. There is no doubt they are incredibly sharp, and last and last. All my P74s I bought for about 40 cents a piece.

I am confused, do they still not make the Personna 74 blades? I have both the DE and Weck style 74's but they weren't all that expensive. Here is a link to the DE Blades and here is the link to the Weck style blades.

I was piff'd a couple of each and have not tried them yet so I cant say if they are sharper or better...

To my mind, the reason to get them is for their longevity. They can easily last 20-30 days. So why not use them?

Here are the one an only Personna 74* (Tungsten atomic number), made of Tungsten with Titanium coating. Produced from 1971 to...? 75-76 ? They only produced them for a couple of years, they were so tough that one could shave an entire month or two with the same blade (Not good for a company who want to make money).

They positively do not make them. Those are not P74s. There are some great thread on B&B, and I think someone said they made them through the early 90s, but I don't recall. I think the classic P74s were made in the 70s, and they're the only ones I have.

I've had 3 P74s. PIF'd one so someone else could try. They are without a doubt one of the best razor blades ever made. I used the first blade 28 days in a row and am now doing the month long challenge again. They are a true all-arounder - sharp as heck, smooth and last forever.
