What's new

Shot my 2012 buck this morning!

Not a monster, but it has been a few years since I shot my last buck. Weighed 180 pounds field dressed. Good sized buck and I am very happy to have made a good shot on him!

Here's a video of the encounter (it is currently uploading so it's going to be awhile before it's available):

Nice shot! How high is your stand?

Got my S&W Model 29 sighted in and am ready. Have a great deal of work for work to get done before I can go though.

Congrats!

Not terribly high, 15-18 feet or so. I believe when we skin and quarter him we'll see that the broadhead travelled down the opposite leg and exited low. It came out in his opposite side armpit. The side shown is the entrance.

Nice job! What camera set up are you using ? I am picking between a go pro or they make one the your iPhone mounts to and u can just use that.

Still haven't gotten my first one this year only been out once going in a few weeks for opening rifle. Just planted two trees and a food plot a few months back and set up our trail cameras got some nice footage of a buck destroying one of our trees and bedding near it so I'm itching to get up to Wisconsin to say hi to him.

Nice job
We don't have deer up here but we do have caribou and moose

A good bit bigger than the deer but not nearly as attractive as a trophy.

Do you eat the meat yourself?

It is a handheld pocket camera kind of like a flip. It was about $60 on Woot.com while back. I have it attached on my stabilizer with a $10 ATV mount. It is basically a round clamp.

180 is above "average" and a good deer for sure around here. My best is 196, my dad has a 220, 216, and his friend a 235.

As far as the meat we process it all at home. Skin, quarter, debone, grind, etc. We do some steaks, grind most into hamburger, some stew meat, and even some for jerky. A 180 pound field dressed deer nets about 50% in meat so 90 pounds. Which is about $270 worth of the cheapest ground beef around here.

Nicely done, congrats! I'm curious about your camera setup too.

Here also, from what I have seen. They grow 'em pretty big in Iowa, I think.

In Alabama that would have been a monster!

Moose stew is a favourite of mine, also moose sausage.People tend to bottle a lot of game here as well

There are local butchers around here that specialize in game meat but they can be hard to find because they have to use different equipment for processing domestic animals

Maybe I'll drop by for some venison stew it's only 2500 miles!
