Shoe Pain

I recently purchased a pair Rockport Waterproof Captoe Dress Shoes:

And I went to a Shrine meeting last night and I came home and my feet hurt so bad my mom told me not to wear them anymore. These are $100.00 dress shoes and my feet feel like they have blisters on them but don't. What is a more comfortable dress shoe to wear with orthodics? I have tried Ecco but the European sizing is too small or fit I should say. I am open to suggestions.

Best,
Jerry

Since you are wearing orthodontics, you should get yourself a serious pair of shoes.

I would bring your orthodontics to you local Allen Edmonds for a fitting into one of the many shoes they carry specifically for a person's custom orthodontics.

Tried Ecco in a bigger size it was too big.

I've never tried custom. Any suggestions were to start?

Can't get rid of orthotics they help even my height difference. My left side is 3.25 inches shorter than my right side.

I will try Allen Edmonds this weekend. What are your thoughts on Alden shoes? Norton Ditto across the street carries Alden shoes. What should I look for in a shoe like that? What questions should I ask? What particular model should I look at?

Alden makes a beautiful shoe, but I am unsure if they have a model that will accommodate an orthodontic insert. They are a top notch product and if they are easily accessible for you to try on, there is no harm in checking them out.

The AE shoes that will accommodate an insert are the Ashton and Benton, with the Benton being closest to the style of the Rockports you selected.

The AE lines rotate and once you know if they will handle your insert, you can pick them up cheaper during sales or on the website's clearance section. I usually use eBay as another source, but with a custom insert req'mt it isnt something I would recommend you start with

If he has teeth on his feet, it's no wonder his shoes don't fit right.

@Tim McD

You mean like having custom shoes made. I apologize to everyone I meant to say "orthotics" not orthodontics - those are for teeth!

I'm going to swing by AE and Alden Saturday. I'll keep you posted! Can you buy the AE Benton on the AE clearence section of their website?

Getting a truly custom shoe will add hundreds to your bill. Many hundreds. But dang ... with over 3" difference to make up, would it work to talk to a bootmaker or boot repairman about making or altering a 'high heel" boot so the appropriate heel is 3" lower?

... like the podiatrist who wondered why old people kept coming and showing him their feet, when all he wanted to do was treat sick kids.

A couple of years ago in england a Paediatrician had his house burned down and was nearly beaten to death as some morons thought he was a child abuser.
True story

*update 5/26/12*

Went to Dillard's and tried on 13 pairs of shoes and found two that might work. One was an Ecco and I forget the other. Next I went to the Rockport in the Mall and tried on a pair of shoes but they were too stiff. I even mentioned how my feet hurt so bad and I asked what I should do. The owner of the store said I could bring them in. I have have thence shy of six months and not sure how they could help me. And while I tried on two different pairs of shoes he did not do a thing to help me with putting on the shoes. The wonderful guy at Dillard's went above and beyond to help me!

Secondly I went to Allen Edmonds and tried on the Park Avenue and they were okay but not great. They are ordering a size 12 and 13 in the Ashland shoe and will call me when they come in

Finally I went to Norton Ditto across the street and while they only had two (yes I said two pairs) of Alden shoes they suggested I called the ND store in downtown Houston. I spoke with a gentleman whom has been in the shoe business for 36 years said it could be one of two things: 1. The build of the shoe 2. The construction of the shoe and materials used. Even though it would be a bit of a drive to Houston I might go visit him one day.

So that is where I am at right now. Any suggestions are certainly welcome.
