Shipping Razors with Ebay Global shipping Program

Does anyone have any thoughts or experience on this newer ebay option for sellers, is it cheaper and safer to ship safety razors this way?.

In the past I sold razors Conusa so I didn't have to hassle with the custom forms, so this seems like it might be a good solution for shipping globally.

I refuse to buy anything with the shipping/customs/duty in the price, like many listings have now.

Everyone knows there is a chance you'll end up paying for fees/duty/taxes from an item brought in from another country, it's nothing new. Why anyone would want to pay for it up front, is beyond me. Many times there is NO duty at my end (Canada), so I'm not volunteering to pay for it up front.

I prefer to take my chances with border services and most times if it's under $100, it comes thru with no fees or duty.

It depends a lot on the destination country and value of merchandise. It does not always make sense, but sometimes it does.

As a seller I would like to let choose the buyer his preferred shipping method, which I guess should be possible (haven't studied it yet in depth).

With many sellers only shipping Global Priority at prohibitive costs, and not offering First Class International @ a fraction of the cost.
Many overseas bidders are eliminated from your market.
Cheers

As a buyer in Canada who buys most of my razors from the U.S, the "Global Shipping Program" has become the bane of my existence. I cannot speak of how it works for U.S. sellers, but it adds about 20% to every razor I purchase, so I no longer buy from anyone using this program. Not the sellers fault though, as they are probably unaware of the huge costs it adds to International buyers.

If you are a U.S. seller who ships Internationally please do not use this program and just ship it USPS International!

Agreed and FIRST CLASS is always fine with me. As soon as it's sent PRIORITY, the rates double and it's almost always taxed/customs.

There's a reason for that.

I would suggest looking at the forum on eBay regarding this as I have seen buyers complain regarding the fees that it charges them that the seller does not see, and how they tend to be more than the duty fees that would be associated with the item.

Kingie48 as one that does a fair bit of selling on eBay and having to look up insurance information for shipping packages when the rare international buyer wants something (we don't sell to international buyers but if they are interested in an item and willing to pay shipping we will give estimated shipping costs) Global Priority (and not the flat rate options) is, according to the USPS site, the cheapest way to ship internationally with insurance; when we have someone international wanting to buy we often mention the first class international price but mention it is at their own risk as there is no insurance.

My thought is since I never offer shipping out side of the USA to begin with, at least it opens the door for other destinations

Slightly OT but when did postage in canada become so insanely expensive? Every time I see something I'd like to buy from canada, and I am not just talking about razors, the prices I am quoted for shipping are jaw dropping. I used to buy a lot of things from up north but it had to stop because of it...

Why do so many U.S. sellers not ship outside the U.S? If the buyer pays the shipping cost, and you use USPS to ship it, why does it matter what address you write on the box?

That is your choice not to ship outside your own country, but really....why? I believe it's all able to be done online and costs little to no extra from say USA to CAD.

when I ship, I'll ship ANYWHERE as long as the buyer agrees to pay the actual costs of shipping.

A lot of ppl have complained about stuff "disappearing." Some countries you get paid with stolen funds... It's a pita....

I never had any issues with canada till the shipping fiasco came about... Really shortsighted to make ppl not want to put money into your economy.

I shipped a Gillette #66 to Germany a couple years ago that got lost in the mail, that why I shy away from shipping out side of the USA

It happens. I had a razor go missing once it hit the US and got screwed over buying from a US buyer....but you can't blanket an entire country on a couple of isolated incidents.

Again, people can choose to ship to where they want, but think some of the reasons are a bit odd.

maybe it's time to see all the US guys squirm with for CAD only sale.

i will say this, it never hurts to ask a US Only sale if they will ship to CAD as 99% of the time they will, especially here on B&B.....eBay is another story.

There is additional paper work plus it's hard to understand why someone would live where the water freezes 6 months of the years......oops, never mind, different subject....:001_smile
