I want to replate this, but want to get it lacquered too. I'm a painter / paper hanger by trade so I have access to suppliers for whatever type I need but have some questions. Do I want nitrocellulose lacquer? What application method would be best?

I want to replate this, but want to get it lacquered too. I'm a painter / paper hanger by trade so I have access to suppliers for whatever type I need but have some questions. Do I want nitrocellulose lacquer? What application method would be best?
I don't know what kind of lacquer to use, but I'm guessing an airbrush with a very fine needle would be the best method of application. (Ultra fine mist spray and good control of flow rate.)
I would bet that when they were made originally they would have been dunk tanked.
