Shedding

I've been using a new brush for three weeks now. Everyday it sheds at least a dozen hairs. How long should I continue to keep using it, hoping it settles down, before I contact the manufacture?

What kind of brush do you have?

I have a 90th Anniversary Simpson Astor that shed everyday for three weeks after I bought it. It has since calmed down.

RETURN ASAP..Are you using very hot water? Are you pressing extremely hard to make lather? You should paint on the later not much harder. A few hairs at first is normal but after that hardly any should come out!!!!!

My Rooney shed enough to make another brush. It took a good month to settle down. Some manufacturers stuff a lot of hair in their brushes.
Some of it falls out. It does happen.

Now a dozen a day seems like a lot to me. I'd make the vendor or manufacturer aware and try to see if it'll settle down. If it doesn't, ship it back.

Totally depends on the make and model. As others have pointed out, nowadays many manufacturers super-stuff the knots. If it's starting to look sparse, get in touch. If it's something like a Shavemac, it can take a bit of time to settle. And, as others have suggested, make sure you're not using too too hot water or using unnecessary force.

What brush?

I would let the vendor know the situation, but maybe give it a couple more weeks, as they'll always suggest shampooing and combing first.

A dozen is a lot though, and 2 more weeks is as much as I'd put up with. If it doesn't reduce significantly or stop altogether, it's a dud.

Depends if it's a super dense brush like one of the Rooney's or the Chubby...if the shedding persists I'd contact the manufacturer. In this particular case though, since it's been shedding a dozen or so EVERY day for the past three weeks...I'd say it's time to contact the manufacturer immediately.

+1. Time for a replacement brush. My Rooney and two Shavemacs (Finest and D01) never shed.

I guess it depends on a lot of factors...had two Shavemac 177's and both shed like crazy up front.

Who knows...maybe Bernd made one batch differently from the next or changed a single part of the process.

The point I would like to make to the OP is that, it all depends on how much you are willing to stomach....you paid for the thing...how many hairs are you willing to let it lose before you cry foul?

My Shavemac did calm down eventually...after losing a decent amount of hairs up front and I still use it every week. Its still extremely dense.
