Shea butter users

I have heard of a few people that use shea butter as an aftershave. If you use it what product do you use and how?

I started using this shea if I have an uncomfortable shave. Something about it is so much more soothing than any AS balm I've used. I do a WH splash and then apply just a little shea before it fully dries. It is a little greasy so it's not my go to for daily AS but I'm amazed at how soothing it is!

the institute karite 25% shea cream is a great moisturizer and all-around after-shave balm.

There are different grades of shea butter: refined, unrefined, shea butter that's been colored yellow, similar butters that are called shea but really aren't, etc. I prefer the unrefined ivory colored kind, and you don't need much or it's too greasy.

I use unrefinpre shave butter for everything. It's amazing how quickly it helps heal whatever ails your skin. I have an oily complexion so I use it *very* sparingly. When I do use it as an aftershave, I will warm up a tiny bit in my hands and add some water from the faucet to make it slicker and thinner. I've found that it absorbs a little easier that way. My product came from Amazon.

Not a shabby preshave either...

Another unrefined user. I just use a little bit at a time, as it easily melts between the fingers. Bought like 5 lbs on ebay, so I'm set for a while.

I very recently switched to unrefined after finding it in my local market. I just melt a bit into the palms and rub it into the beard when I happen to think of it. Very nice stuff....

+1 after an uncomfortable shave

I use 100% pure organic cold pressed unrefined shea butter, melt a little bit into the palms and rub all over the face, great for the skin!

After application it leaves my skin with an oily look, so I only use it at night when it has chance to soak in. The next morning my skin looks (and feels) great.

That works well for me too. With raw shea butter I find a very thin layer works and soaks in fairly quickly.

I've also been using unrefined shea butter for several months now. I got mine from the same place on Amazon that mftoms59 did.

For application, I get a bit on my fingertips, rub the fingertips of both hands together until it's all melted into a transparent film, and gently "brush" it onto my skin with the just the tips of my fingers. Shea butter is pretty thick and waxy, so I found if I tried to rub it on like a balm or a cream I wound up putting on too much. Not only does it work great post shave, it's great for any part of the skin that needs some moisturizing/soothing.

My skin is fairly dry so it absorbs quickly and any shine is gone by the time I finish breakfast in the morning.
