Shaving with the RUBIN-1

Scored a Soviet adjustable from a fellow member recently ,the Rubin-1....I was surprised how nice it shaves, very smooth and on #9 I believe it may expose more edge than my 1963 Gillette ,which should be able to mow down most any whisker. I lathered up with a Vie-Long 23mm horse and some "lavender" Fume cream from Turkey. I shaved my face with the exposure of the Russian blade at 5,then the tough spots on #9...that did the trick, trouble free and smooth as silk ,although I must give some credit to the wonderful Voskhod blade..The adjustment ring is tight and accurate,no slippage even when wet . The solid bar is nice, very straight exposure. The under carriage appears to be a polycarbonate or some other hard plastic material. The handle really feels good in hand, extra long and stippled for easy gripping when wet.I honestly can't find any faults with this Sweet Soviet DE ,if you run across one , grab it !.

Nice razor! I suspect Soviet-era razors (and most products) were of high quality (especially before Gorbachev) because if someone screwed up on one and it cut (or broke for) the Soviet President or member of the Politburo that employee would likely be sent to prison. In the US all that would happen was that person would be on the unemployment line. One case where democracy does not contribute to quality (I would rather live in a democracy/republic even with this fact, though).

I wonder what razor/blade Russian President Putin and VP Medvedev currently use? What about US President Obama? Canadian PM Harper?

The razor was manufactured at the soviet aircraft facilty, from what I heard, and also in the rumor mill is that Putin doesn't shave himself,a young girl armed with a straight fixes him up.

Glad to hear these are good, if I get a little cash, I'd like to purchase one of these off ebay.

when you hit your "post quota" ,you might want to post a WTB (wanted to buy) for the Rubin.....in fact, you may not need a minimum # of postings to buy, check it out on the wiki...it's best to get things from fellow members,as a general rule the guys will give you a better deal, but mainly they are a hell of a lot more honest than the vast majority of ebay scammers.
