Shaving twice within 24 hours?

I was somewhat of a bum yesterday... didn't shave early AM as is my routine as I puttered (now that's a sign I am old!) around the house in the AM and then spent time in the PM outside in the pool. Since we were going to the evening church service I decided to shower and shave around 4pm, even though I considered skipping so I could have a better shave this AM (as I will be flying to PA).

This AM, i worried that shaving so soon would irritate my face, so I chose a mild blade and razor (new Astra SP and a TV Special) and though there wasn't much growth since yesterday I went through my normal three-pass plus cleanup routine (shower, splash additional hot water at sink, hot towel, lather). Happily, no irritation at all and a very comfortable and close shave. So either my face has adapted well to the DE shave process, I chose my blade/razor/soap well for the task, or my process and technique has improved enough to even succeed at such attacks on my face.

Or... I really didn't have anything to worry about shaving twice within such a short period. :blushing:

A couple of times I've done two single pass shaves. One early morning and one early evening. It felt nice to freshen up a bit but I only did it to get some practice with my Feather SS.

I do this pretty often. When I am on the road I might spend all day on a convention floor. I start off with a three pass shave and cleanup. But almost every evening I am taking customers to dinner in very nice restaurants...and these are often different customers, people I might not see on the floor at all. So I need to look my best all day and all night. My beard is not very heavy. I get good shaves both times, and the only time I ever have any irritation is when I make a mistake. I do change my blade frequently, rarely getting three shaves. I travel with three different blades: Feather, Personna Blue, and Gillette Black. If my face is a little irritated or I am paying for a mistake I will use a more forgiving blade...considering the Personna my most forgiving blade and the Feather the least forgiving. So I shave most often with the Gillette Black. And I always make sure I have a great soap. Normally my lead soap is MWF, second is Mike's. My latest trip I led with Irisch Moos cream which I have recently fallen in love with. Back up was MWF.

I take a bit of a dive on the first shave when I know I'll have to shave twice in a 24-hour period. You just have to choose which shave is most important.

+1. For me, a second shave in 24 usually means an after hours official function, so the second shave gets the most care and attention.

When I have an evening appointment or date I will do a second shave. The second one is always a mild razor and blade combo and just two XTG passes.

The handful of times I've done it my first shave of the day was in the afternoon. It was my day off but I had something in the evening... The next morning's shave would go very well, no (extra) irritation due to the shortened time frame.

Oh, and both shaves would be my usual 3-pass.

My usual shave is in the early evening and when I go to the gym in the morning I have a 1 or 2 pass clean up. I put a blade to my face 4-500 times a year. I am rarely BBS but always look clean shaven and fresh.

Glaad to hear you had a positive experience. I really believe that I need to try the hot towel routine. If I shave twice in a day I have to go really gently and not go ATG. My facial hair gets super hard and my skin is easily irritated. Good luck in the future if you try it again!

If you're already a daily shaver, I doubt that squeezing in an extra shave will lead to discomfort. I do this sometimes, like your situation, it's usually on the weekend when I may shower later in the day, but then have to go to work the next morning. Never had an issue shaving twice.

I had to shave twice a day for 30+ years in the military (to pass morning and evening inspections), had my fair share of skin problems, in between there where many hours we had to wear camouflage on our face and always being outdoors didn't help either. So I don't think that most people will have any trouble with a occasional second shave during the day. Now that I'm retired I shave for fun, go figure ;-)

I'm an evening shaver, but sometimes I will shave twice on a Sunday so I look good for church in the morning and I'll look good for work the next morning. I couldn't do this everyday without some irritation developing. 24 hours is about the right time to wait between shaves for me. I seem to have my best shaves when I've waited a little longer.... like 36 hours..... but that almost never happens because I work at the office everyday, rather than every other day. Sometimes I will go 36 hours on a weekend.

On Fridays I routinely shave in the morning and then in the evening, no problems. We have young children so on the weekends so if I can, I try to avoid any activity (like shaving) that takes away from time with them.
