Shaving tips please

Hey guys ive posted before on the issue of ingrown hairs on neck etc and didnt recieve any solid advice some attempts tho and i definitely appreciate it. Anyways my.new attempt to alleviate this problem is to ask u guys how you would attempt to shave ur lower neck hairs with the grain if they are growing from right to left, left to right etc. I simply shave downwards on my entire neck because i was told u can cheat a lil when using a straight edge razor. Which is what i use. I use feather blades. Also im beginning to wonder if thats the problem maybe theyre too sharp but the Wilkinson sword blades i was using preciously didnt do any better. Anyways i know all about prep and post shave but nothing is workin. How would u guys shave these pesky hairs since going down one pass isnt working!

Well I don't shave with a straight but I go with the grain from the center of my neck out towards the sides. Each side respectively on the first pass. I reverse for the second pass. If I want even closer I come from the outside in at a more diagonal path. Have you tried rubbing in a little glycerin (a few drops) to your hands and rubbing it into your neck? It works good on my sensitive neck.

Do you use a "face scrub". They're available from neutropenia or Nivea in most pharmacies. Clinique and others also make them. These products are gritty and help remove the dead skin layer that forms globs around the hairs of the neck especially. There have been some nice pictures of neck hairs before and after use of this kind of product that show it pretty clearly.

Found them: http://onlinelibrary.wiley.com/doi/10.1111/j.1365-2133.2011.10783.x/full

The good stuff is in figure 9, halfway down. They don't identify what kind of scrub was used.

Other than that, the more practice you get with your shavette the more comfortable you will get with difficult directions. The neck is hard to go straight across. I go out and down diagonally from the midline. Watch your blade angle very closely--this will have a huge impact an the closeness and comfort of your shave and the neck is very tricky. Don't forget to stretch your skin also--lift your chin up high and press down on the base of your neck to get a little more stretch if needed.

Good luck

Thx a lot.man for ur post. I do use a neutrogena shave defense exfoliating scrub every day. Also i have had bad experiences with stretchinf the skin so i just tilt my neck forward and lift my chin up thats the only stretching i do cuz i think stretching too much will cut the hairs below the skin when the neck goes baxk to normal position and thus causing more ingrowns. I do agree with ur out and down technique. Ill have to work on that more.
