Shaving soaps and the cost per shave- Data mined from the 3017 thread.

Bumping this because I'm wondering if anyone has 3017'ed an old can of Gilette or Barbasol? Not that I'd go back to foam just for the price savings, but where DE has the clear price advantage, I am curious where foam fall into the mix for lather cost. At $2 for a can, if you get 15 shaves then it actually works out to about the same as B&M or DR Harris refills.

Edit:
I went back and read through more posts and found something that answers my question.
I only have 2 products to contribute, but one is interesting to me.

Stirling Frozen Tundra - (puck+sample) - $8.00 - 68 shaves - $0.12/shave
Barbasol Original - 2.25fl oz - $0.97 - 13 shaves - $0.075/shave

When I extrapolate the shaves from a 2.25fl oz travel can to a 10oz normal can that costs $2, I get $0.035/shave

I'm sure not everyone will enjoy using Barbasol, but for me, the shaves were good. Not as great as I get with a soap, mind you, but good solid shaves.

Glad I could help!

I had missed this thread previously. I really enjoyed reading the info and thanks to everyone who contributed. I have a hard time 3017'ing any one soap but I appreciate the data.

I just finished 30 days with Haslinger. Depending on where you buy, costs can vary.

My puck was $5.25 US so that works out to be $0.175 per shave. Even delivered at $6.50, it is only $0.22 per shave. You can find it even cheaper then that but I won't get to those numbers until after I use up the Shavemac $5.25 ones.

I'd buy that for a dollar

I am actually quite fond of the Barbasol foam can. Leave the "lather" on the face for a few minutes before shaving to condition the skin and you will be rewarded with a great shave. IMO, it's pretty tough to unseat the Barbasol foam when factoring in value. I may need to revisit this forgotten product......Unfortunately, I am closer to 4017 than 3017 due to all the soaps I have :/

Hey Bruce, since you are a fellow Canuck, where can I get the Haslinger for that price? I just ordered my first puck(Sandalwood) from IB. They are substantially more than the price you posted. If I like the performance and scent, I would certainly order more at the price you listed.

Shavemac if you order 8 pucks or there about, it gives a good price to cost per puck balance at about $6.50 delivered.

Then this was posted and it works out even cheaper and you can get about 12 pucks before shipping goes up to the next level. I ordered 8 more and was happy with the price/puck ratio: http://badgerandblade.com/vb/showth...Shaving-Soaps-(-3-37-instead-4-04-)?highlight=

Much more cost effective to buy 8 or so from the UK then from some N/A vendors where they are $9+12% tax for us.

All these prices and cost per shaves are in USD....but still a good value in a top tier soap.

My updated 3017 table after finishing up a puck of Barrister & Mann Bay Rum...

I have determined that B&M, Stirling, and Maggard's all cost about $0.12 per shave.

I also found that a Palmolive stick costs under $0.02 per shave
