Shaving Made Easy = It Works

Okay, so I know a lot of you know about this: http://archive.org/details/shavingmadeeasyw0020th

I have cold water shaved before and I really like it...in fact, I've switched to it. Well, I decided to follow this to a tee this morning. Dry face, lather, rub lather in face, rinse, relather, shave, then I cold water rinsed, warm water (I didn't have a warm towel), quick facial massage, and then aftershave. I did two completely north to south passes, then up the jaw bone and a little ATG. Well, it's not perfect mind you, but I have a feeling this will be my new way of doing it. I have always read the point of multiple passes is to remove hair, which in turn would make ATG easier, but MOST of the hair was gone thanks to this method, and it was mostly WTG. My mind is blown. Sure, I used a safety razor (blue tip), but wow, this was serious business. I recommend you all try this

The thought of shaving with a dry face makes me nervous. Glad it worked well for you, Zack.
His face wasn't dry if he lathered, rinsed and re-lathered. He's basically just adding a lather as a pre-shave.

This approach works better for me with cream than soap. What are you lathering with, Zack?

I guess I don't get the point of the first lather and rinse. I cold water shave as I used to with warm water: shower, lather, shave, rinse, nivea for men with sunblock (I have had skin cancer so I need the sun block). It works great for me and saves me a lot of time. I do a quick three pass shave, but I only lather once. For this reason I stick with a very slick soap. On my days off I will use proraso green, but I need to re-lather with that one.

I used a soap this time around, but I may try a cream next time around.

I think the point is to Hydrate the whiskers, not make them soft. Notice the book says a hot towel is the last part of shaving. you want the whiskers to get nice and fat with water/lather and have them stand at attention before being shorn. Soft, Floppy whiskers are hard to shave.

It seems to work! My face felt better after. Instead of the towel, I just put some warm water. Plus, I know I made a mistake or two and it didn't show in anyways after. The cool water helps with that, too. Definitely worth trying.

I tried cold water shaving. It was interesting and I did get a good shave, but it's not my thing. I like heat. I like warm lather. I use a scuttle all summer long. But I think it's great you found something that works for you and brings you pleasure.

If it works for you then who's to say its wrong. I'll stick with the tried and true way of doing a good prep, lather, and follow up.

It seems like many think there is no prep involved, when there is. You just gotta read it, it's there. Just not elaborate.

I have found for a good shave I can splashwater on myface, make lather, splash more water, lather, shave WTG, rinse, lather, then ATG, rinse.

More prep makes closer to BBS.

Last time I cold water shaved was about 33 years ago, and it involved water from a canteen and a helmet to hold the rinse water. Never again.

Thank you for your service :) I have seen pictures of WWII soldiers doing just that and it just...I dunno. It's very nice to see the soldiers just lounging, very...bittersweet I think? What really gets me is seeing photos of the German's doing the same. Yes, the Nazis were HORRIBLE HORRIBLE people, but seeing them just doing basic things really makes me remember they were people, too.
