What's new

Shaving inheritance

My grandmother passed away a few months ago. Everyone in the family thought I should have these things as no one else would know what to do with them. The razor was her fathers or possibly her grandfathers, and she hand painted the scuttle. I don't know how that type of scuttle is used. I've seen pictures of others of this style but I don't know much about them. Can anybody fill me in? I would love to be able to use it.

It's great that the gear is staying in your family! I have the Fatboy my gradfather gave me and it will absolutely go to the next generation.

I'm not entirely sure how that scuttle should be used. I think it's one where the soap goes up top and you fill the bottom with hot water. The water will keep the soap warm and you can face lather with it. You might be able to put the brush in the bottom, as well.

Glad to hear it is staying in the family!

That is a great looking straight and brush.

The scuttle looks actually to be a soap/lather mug with a brush rest built in.

The soap is in the mug part and used as a regular soap mug, and in between passes, you rest the brush in the open portion so as not to mess the counter.

The open portion is too shallow to hold hot water, so it isn't really a scuttle in the sense that most guys here would use the term.

If I had my preferences (because I mostly face lather) between a regular scuttle and what you have there, I'd choose what you have there.

Beautiful craftsmanship I might add.
