What's new

Shaving in opposite directions.

I am a veteran of 2 shaves, the first being yesterday, and the second just an hour ago.

I had extremely good results for a first shave with a straight, reading everyone's first time posts it seems for some reason the straight blade really agrees with my face and I had an amazing smooth buttery soft finish.

Well, I was having my second shave this morning, all was going well and then I remembered from the back of my mind reading about people who back upwards in the opposite direction of the initial passes. So far my face was already quite smooth but I could still feel the tug of stubble when I pushed against the grain, so I figured what the the hell and started from the bottom of the neck and worked upwards.

I was once again floored by what these razors can do! I was getting that really fine mush of extrememly short hair and the entire experience gave me an even closer shave.

Comments on this? So far my skin does not seem irritated at all

If one wants to make broad generalizations, for many people straight down (N-S) is a WTG (with the grain) pass, while straight up (S-N) is an ATG (against the grain) pass. So it makes quite a bit of sense to do those two passes, as it will result in a very close shave.

However, the above is usually not true for the neck region, as many people have many off the wall growth patterns on their neck. :001_cool:

ayup. I always go with the grain, then across the grain, and finally against the grain for a super smooth shave
