The traditional razor of Japan (Kamisori) is well know and loved in this forum along with the natural stones mined there, but what of the other gear we think about for achieving a shave?
I've tried looking into whether brushes, soap, cream or their equivalents were used in Japan in times past/pre-20th century and there is a dearth of information out there. Only thing I came across was a thread where someone mentioned that apparently they just used water to shave.
It seems that even strops are a more modern arrival in the country.
Anyone have any sources or information on how the citizens of Japan shaved in "the olden days".
