Shaving in a Hurry

Has anyone developed a fairly good shaving technique/quick routine for those mornings when you're just pressed for time for one reason or another (e.g., slept in, clock wasn't on, power got knocked out overnight, etc.)? I usually enjoy a nice fifteen-minute shave routine in the morning, but get thrown out of kilter every once in a while when I oversleep. I want a close shave that will last the day, but the need for speed usually disrupts that. :confused1

I don't know how popular this answer will be around this forum but if speed is what you are looking for the commercial shave products are pretty much your best bet. A lot of people here will argue that with enough experience and practice a DE shave can be very quick. This is true but you need to put in the time to develop these skills. If you are really pressed for time and don't have the skills to pull off getting a fast lather your best bet is the lather in a can and a DE. If you don't have time for a DE a regular cartridge razor. However if you have a bit more time using things like an arko stick with face lathering can speed things up a bit. Or using a can and a brush to spread the lather on your face. In the end you'll just have to figure out what works best for you.

Takes a little time for a nice DE shave, especially without a lot of experience. Barbasol and a Gillette Guard or BIC metal is always an option. Just don't forget, a disposable razor can bite you pretty badly too. A Gillette tech is a mild shaver and I've always been pretty quick with them.

just faced this the other day... passed on the straight razor, grabbed my feather AS-D1 razor and a personna lab blade (feather blades are my usual blade but I am loving these personnas)

I used an Arko stick on my stubble straight from the shower (no pre-shave ritual) and face lathered it w badger brush - Arko was grabbed because it lathers so quickly, and I limited myself to 2 passes (WTG pass and XTG pass). skipped the usual alum block rub and threw on Spieck AS and threw on clothes. brought some trumpers sandalwood skinfood in tiny sample bottle to rub on before my meeting which I made it on time for.

Granted it wasn't my closest shave (by far) but looked very presentable and no weepers/nicks or anything to worry about.

Caveat - I don't own a mach 3 or other 'modern's razor' anymore or else I likely would have grabbed that being in such a rush.

I just follow the same routine as always, only faster. If I am really pressed for time, I shave before my shower, while SWMBO is showering (she showers first). I never use any different hardware or software except when traveling.

If I'm in a hurry I use my DE86, or my 41' Ranger Tech with my Semogue 1305 and the yellow can of Barbasol and do two passes. Takes me only ten minutes to do a wtg, and a xtg, shave. And I suffer no nicks or irritation.

I grab the toilet paper, pray, and get ready for the soon to be cuts and the mind raping pain the aftershave will give me.

Thanks for the tips! Blackbard, if I let SWMBO shower first in my home, I'd be doing a cold shave...all day. Hat tip to ya!
I saw a few references to the Arko stick. I will need to include that in my arsenal.

If im in a hurry I shave the same but only a little quicker. I don't know why people think you have to take forever when wet shaving.

Canned goo might help but I can whip up a usable Razorock face lather in a minute then do a 2 pass SAS. Won't be perfect but it will get me good enough in less than 5 mins.

I shave because I have to, not because I want to. I sport a goatee to push the limits of what will pass at my work. (respirator fit tests) My average time with a straight is 3 1/2 minutes to shave with 2 passes. The last time I brought up I hadn't nicked myself I did it the next morning so I wont say so! If you are after the act of shaving not the pampering of yourself, it doesn't take that long.

When I'm pressed for time, I use a cream and not a soap. Minimal lather time of about 30 seconds and I'm scraping away! I'll skip going for the DFS and just go for the... what? Damned shave? And then ASB, so my skin feels smoother even if I miss spots.

+1 I use the DE86 or Gillette Fat Handle Tech!

(e.g., slept in, clock wasn't on, power got knocked out overnight, etc.)?

My cell phone is my backup alarm clock.... and my boss knows it

Shaving wise, I prefer to shave after my shower before going to bed, but on the extremely rare occasions that doesn't happen, and I'm pushed for time in the morning, I weigh my options and balance the fact that I have only 36 hours growth... who am I meeting with today? I might just skip it... but being blonde with slow growth, I can get away with shaving every other day and still being presentable... or at least as presentable as I'd be if I shaved with an electric.
If I need to look 100% and can't skip it, then when I shave my head, I'll continue and shave my face with the same cart.

Like a few others. I dont see why it takes super long. Even if its 15 minutes you'll get more skilled in time. But, my thoughts. shave stick and face lathering, even with puck soap or cream easily faster then bowl lathering.
Use a "good" shaving cream from a can, seen a lot with skin conditioners in them but havent used them myself.
Just do less passes and go for SAS, there's always tomorrow and no reason to nick or scrap yourself because of being rushed.
and of course the "dreaded" multi-blade cartridge like others have said gets you closer with less passes, would just say aim for less blades (3 max) to avoid razor burn from it.
