Shaving head design and preference

Are only the British made Aristocrats, like the Aristocrat Jr., #21 & #16 Aristocrats made with the flat plate under the head? Or are there some USA or Canadian Gillettes made with that design? That's question #1.

Question #2: Do you find that the solid plate head design is the one that is most conducive to a close comfortable shave -- or are the diamond shaped plate models as effective for you? Or are you totally into the New and New Improved head design?

Unsure with Q#1, but I believe those who answer yes to Q#2 say that the flat plate on the #16 and others lend more weight to the head of the razor, and thereby delivery a closer shave. I don't yet have a #16, so I cannot weigh in on the situation just yet.
