Shaving discussion at work

First off, I did not broach the subject, believe it or not. I work in a cubicle farm and I overhead a neighbor talking to another about shaving in the shower(apparently they had problems imaging the effectiveness of shower shaving). Anyway, I couldn't resist bringing up DEs and what not. Now it seems I might have some potential shaving acolytes here. One even expressed interest in straight shaving so I sent them over the Whipped Dog to check out some stuff.

Everyone I have mentioned it to looks at me like I have leprosy... Maybe I am not using the magic words

I tried explaining it to my wife but she just thinks i am obsessed... and she likes to get mani/pedi's! its the same thing, in my mind, cause she could just use nail clippers and a file, i could just use barbasol and any throw-away... but you guys know what i'm saying!

I was pleased with my daughter's boyfriend on this topic. I mentioned DE shaving and he tells me his safety razor broke or some such thing. I gave him my old Slim Adjustable which he liked. He also mentioned he had been using a straight razor but took a piece of chim big enough to leave a scar. Well, last week he got another straight razor and is back to that. I like this kid....

Years ago I heard some guy talking about how it's worth learning traditional shaving techniques; the benefits of Manly rituals, and all that. I remember thinking, "That's just really weird. Of all the things to waste your brain cells on..."

Maybe it's something you have to discover on your own.

I talked a friend into giving it a try. I posted a picture of one of my recent acquisitions, and he was asking questions about ("What are the teeth for?"). He told me about why he doesn't like close shaving (ingrowns and irritation), and I gave him the whole one blade spiel. Then I went out and got a couple of razors at an antique shop for him to try. That was a mistake, because I want to keep them. I haven't met up with him yet to give him the razors, so who knows how it will go.

I work with family and have seen and talked about my razors and shave gear when i get deliveries. They insist that I'm turning "metro". I've tried explaing that it is far from metro and more like our grandparents or cowboys.

As one coboy said to the other "I'm trying to decide whether I like Proraso Red as much as do the green.".......

Thats nice that you may now have some co-workers to have some shave talk with. The guys at my job just use carts and don't show any interest when I told them that I'm getting into DE shaving.

Hopefully you can convert them.

I was just talking to my friend and told him that my latest hobby is DE shaving. He used to shave with a mach something razor. I gave him my old electric a few years ago when I got a new one and liked it. But when I told him about DE shaving. He said he is planning on getting a straight edge razor. I told him to check out B&B. But he told me his dad used to shave with a straight edge and will show him. Anyway I hope gets into it. Who know, maybe I'll be straight shaving in the near future.

I haven't had any luck at work getting anyone interested but its raises the eyebrows of some of the older guys who remember the DEs but allot of those guys were growing beards and had long hair then or were using injectors and moved to the trac II and followed as the modern cart evolved. My wife however has her own set and shaves her legs and arm pits. I think she enjoys it but it might be a case of "if you cant beat em join em". Its nice to have this forum to talk to others. Never was much into social networking but I enjoy this quite allot. Thanks Gents for being a great group of fellows to talk to

More or less everyone I've tried to discuss shaving with has looked at me like I was speaking another language or something. Got one buddy to switch to a DE and wetshaving but he still doesn't wanna talk about it. I've got one guy at work that has actually asked a few questions about it and may at some point be borrowing some gear from me to give it a try. That's in the works but I'm taking it slow with him. Don't wanna lose another possible convert!

They need to have a point?!?! Hold on, that sound I heard was the earth shattering...

It's almost like talking about our feelings... What guys do that? ;-)

I'm pretty passionate about it, so I bring it up whenever I can. Kind of like music, or the color blue, or our Labrador retriever puppies, or... People think (know?) I'm nuts.
