Shaving cream scent vs After shave scent

Hello everyone. This is my first post/new member. I was wondering if I need to match the scent of my aftershave to my shaving cream? I am new to wet shaving and I just bought my first safety razor (de89l) paired with TOBS sandalwood. Does it matter what aftershave I get or is the smell of my cream just going to fade away anyways?

Thanks

Welcome to B&B!! Matching the aftershave to the shave cream scent does not matter, but I like to match mine just to have the same overall scent experience for the entire shave. While many shaving creams and aftershaves seem strong when you are using them or right after you have applied them, the scents are mostly fleeting and will not "conflict" so to speak. It's all up to you to decide what you like.

Most creams & soaps will fade after an hour or so, with the exception of several of Mama Bear's soaps. You can find AS that match or complement each other. No shortage of combos to try.

Your cream' s scent will be gone. No need to match.

What he said. Though there are a couple of strong-scented soaps that may linger - in a good way; Mike's Natural Soaps Bay Rum comes to mind.
Welcome to B&B, a great community with a wealth of knowledgeable guys. Enjoy.

Thanks for the advice guys. Will definitely be trying out some different combinations.

As advised by the rest, there's no need to match, its all up to you really...sometimes I use Tabac AS with Tabac soap...or Old Spice AS with Old Spice Cream etc ...just for the fun of it, good luck!

I have never had this problem, and frankly never even thought about it. The shaving cream scent as far as I'm concerned is for the enjoyment of the shaving experience and it's gone once the shave is completed.

I agree with the prior posts. But one exception might be Tabac shaving soap - its scent is pretty strong and sometimes remains after my shaves. I usually supplement it with Tabac EDC!! Yum  But I have used other AS or cologne after shaving with Tabac soap and it's worked well, too.

There are several soap/creams that will have a lingering scent (Tabac, Cyril Salter cream, and Queen Charlotte to name a few) and in these cases you would want to make sure the aftershave scent will not clash with the scent of the soap/cream. It wouldn't be hard to do, especially if you just use witch hazel or alum as an aftershave and there are plenty of non-scented aftershaves to choose from as well if you would like to leave the lingering scent unadulterated.
