Shaving break through! Maybe.

I have been back into wet shaving for a few months now and this week may have had a break through. I am traveling and have had a perfect BBS shave every day with my stripped down kit. Go figure. Parker 99r, Arko stick, Pure Badger brush and get this, Kroger blades. I actually think the blades are the difference. I have prepped the same, face scrub, hot towel, pre-shave oil, face lather, 3 passes WTG, ATG, XTG. The blades may be the difference. I have gotten the closest shaves this week without any nicks, bumps or burn. I use Sharks and Derby Extras at home and get a few nicks but not all the time. I realize my technique is getting better all the time, but could these cheap blades really be the difference?

I don't think it's impossible. Alternatively, maybe you have stumbled on something with your technique and don't know it. Maybe the upset to your routine caused by traveling has led to you doing that something.

How about buying a few weeks worth of blades and mailing them home, assuming they aren't available at home. Or at any rate, use them for a month and see if the trend holds up.

As much as we like our 'premium' products, there's nothing like old school shave products.

I wonder who manufactures Kroger blades? I understand that Personna manufactures store brand blades in the UK. I've heard that Dorco manufactures many US store brand blades.

In any event congratulations on achieving shave nirvana!

Have you been staying at a LaQuinta?

If you don't get this you may not have seen the commercials. Enjoy the shaves!

I have used the Kroger blades at home with good results. I am going to continue with them upon my return so see if I still get the same results. I have a very soft water at home (water softener) so that isn't really an issue at home. I do think that sometimes we get caught up in the idea that just because something is more expensive it is better. I have often found inexpensive doesn't necessarily mean cheap or inferior but, that is often hit and miss.
