It was CaptainK, with the $12 floating bowl in the Dirty Bird Scuttle PIF thread. That sounds like an odd game of Cluedo but anyway....

You know what else Julie has? A $12 Lather Bowl. (She calls it a soap bowl, on her shaving gear page.) From her website: "Palm sized, subtle swirl on floor, shaped to keep lather from climbing the sides of the bowl." Anyway, I emailed her with a few questions, and she did some testing for me. Guess what? It floats!!
It floats with about 1/4-1/2" of the rim above water. She said it floats stable even with a heavy brush in it. To me, it sounds like the perfect, inexpensive alternative to a scuttle. Just float it in your sink full of hot water!
Needless to say, I ordered one. I'll try to report back here once it arrives and I've had a chance to test in out in a real-world application.
