Shavette and longer blades

I want to give straight razor shaving a try. I'm thinking one of the razors that use disposable blades would be an expensive way to start and not require sharpening skills. However I would like it to be as close to the real straight razor experience as possible. Most of this type razor that I find take double edged blades broken in half, but I know that some of the shavette type take a longer blade. I am having difficulty finding out which ones can use the longer blade, and have had no success finding anyone offering these longer blades for sale.

Can anyone help?

The Dovo shavette had an insert for 3 different kind of blades and I think WCS may have them and the blades but not 100%

The Parker SR1 looks and feels similar to a straight and can take both a split DE blade or the longer single edge blades.

I have a Dovo Shavette, and I tried the red holder with a half DE blade and didn't care for it, its the same number of strokes used with a DE, and more room for error. I also used the green holder with Personna blades, and I feel that its the disposable straight way to go. Its not the same as a real straight by any means, but its closer than the half DE blades. IMHO that is.

I've been using the Parker SR1 for the past week and I'm loving the shaves I'm getting even as a beginner.

i use injector blades in my parker when i use it (not often but i have had it a long time). they work well for me and they are a little longer. as far as shavettes go i like the WECK best and they are much longer than a broken DE blade. i much prefer a traditional straight.

As well as Dovo, Tondeo and Jaguar produce 62mm (Cabinet/A9) compatible shavettes. There is also a generic version which I have seen re branded by producers such as
NTS Solingen/Hercules/4420 Mustang/Basler/Lady B/Cerena/Efalock/CRP Solingen

can anyone tell me which shavette I need to use these blades? I think they are similar to the spined Personnas, so I would need a Dovo with the green insert???

trouble is, 'everyone' seems to sell the Dovo with the black and/or red inserts. anyone know if Parker or Merkur or anyone else has something that will work? thank you.

Each blade size: 67 * 15 * 1.5mm

I don't know, but I'd be interested to hear the answer. I wonder if these would fit the Wecks, possibly if the spines were removed?

They work in the Wecks, but only with the guard. They should fit the Dovo. They are thinner than the original Weck and the current Personna hair shaper blades.
I believe Will from Holland posted about using them. I have never tried, although I have a pack.

Is it possible to still get a good shave in a Weck even with the guard?
I have a Weck headed my way and the only locally available blades are those from Feather.

I wonder if it would still need the guard if I put a double spine on it....

I use a Weck Sextoblade - Fromm makes blades that fit and they're longer than a DE.
+1. The Sextoblade is a fantastic razor. It has an optional guard that makes it more like a safety razor. It's weight and stiffness are very comparable to a light straight. A nice Sextoblade can be had for around $10 if you keep your eye out, and the Fromm blades are inexpensive and work very well. I got my blades at Sally's, and got 10 blades for the price of 5 (sale). It's a great travel razor if you don't want to worry about honing/stropping. I think I got 20 or 30 shaves out of one blade with no maintenance other than keeping the edge clean/dry, and keeping the razor clean/dry.

I just bought a Dovo 201006 and a couple of green holders from Superior Shave. I'll let you know how it goes.

I got the blades off ebay, they were cheap @ $9.95AUD for 100 including shipping to Oz (search for 'platinum coated edge cut razor blade')

well the blades don't seem to fit any of the holders (black, red or green). the razor came with a box of the long Personna blades and the green holder works fine. I'll see if I can make some modifications. I'll let you know how I go.
