What's new

Shavette And Barber Razor Enthusiast (SABRE) group

IBC with a Parker SE. Couple of nicks and some neck rash but decent shave. More blade exposure than I thought would be there. Will try a different blade next time and see if it's any different.
Did your IBC have the ability to position the blade at two different levels of exposure as one of those videos showed?
I used mine last night and did not have that dual option (or at least I could not figure out how to set the blade at a different level but that could be due to how long the tabs were on the half DE blade).

Doesnt appear so. Just 3 "nubs" in an even line. I'm wondering if a snapped DE would sit the same. Here is where the exposure is.

If they came with it....I would bin them or use them as box openers!
There might even be too much wiggle for me to trust them for my box opening duties lol. I snapped a few photos to show just how much movement the blade had within the blade holder. This was even more pronounced when I tried the blade in my Weck Sextoblade.

Been a while since I wrote,
How is everyone?

My Kasho Kai woody order got canceled 😞.
Seems they were out of stock.

I’m looking for the same bundle that @never-stop-learning purchased with the blades and leather pouch!

I did however managed to get a Weck Sextoblade orderly!! Which will take about a month or so.. to arrive at this corner of the world

Sorry double post
Today’s shave

Feather custom blade
Feather special cut
Taylor of old bond street - Almond,
“My wife’s moisturizer” lol

2 pass, minor touch up,
DFS+
Getting used to the feather custom, still prefer heavier blade though, Weck Medical orderly on it’s way !!!

Usually when that happens to me, it’s because I got lax about reducing those hairs WTG first. Any ATG with long stubble will pull, possibly undetected, instead of whittle.

That's certainly the case for me with "regular" razors, and it's something that took me a long time to see the correlation for, i.e. a poor 1st pass was the cause of the irritation on the 2nd pass. I mean, it should be obvious, but I am a bit slow on the uptake sometimes!

I still can't work out whether it applies as much with open blades...my working theory is that good skin stretching with an open blade might allow some folks to go ATG from the get go. I can almost make it work, but not well enough that I have decided to move to a one pass shave. It seems feasible over about 70% of my face, but there's still some areas where going XTG / ATG straight away just increases the chance of snagging / irritation too much to make it worth the risk compared to the more consistent results that a reduction pass can achieve.

You are probably more right about this than I am, it really depends what stretching causes those neck hairs to do. Stretching does give you some distance from the blade to your neck, if you keep the razor flat, but if those hairs grow flat I have found no way to shave them ATG first. The blade has to get underneath the hair and push it out first before it will cut which will pull the hair follicle slightly. What I have found is that pulling causes accumulative irritation. With a safety razor, I can stretch less, but what really helps is being able to engage the safety bar and manipulate the skin around the problem hairs. If I stretch tightly and hover, the razor will behave just like a straight. Just some thoughts.

Stretching or not, my old guy turkey neck appreciates a nice WTG pass first. ;)

Makes for a nice, irritation free shave. :)
